Back, after a long break...

I know you all missed me. (assuming any of you noticed I was gone)  A couple months ago things got hectic for me with work and home.  Basically, my wife was offered a job in Salt Lake City and seeing that her job working for the State of Wyoming was going nowhere, she took it.  So I had to quit my job with the Air Force, we moved out here and Ive been busy trying to get a job since then.  Just last week I finally got offered a position as a Drafter/Engineer working with Groen Brothers Aviation.  So things are starting to settle down and I have just 1 week of sitting around doing nothing before I head back to work.  Were still looking for a house here, stuck in a tiny apartment, with most of our stuff occupying 2 storage units across town.  Right now my Bird is sitting in the parking lot wrapped in a car cover, being ignored because I dont have my tools or a garage to work on it in.  Much less the spare money to do the work that needs to be done.  As soon as we get a house Ive got plenty planned for it though.

Basically I want to completely rebuild.  The undercarriage is still in good condition, I figure I might as well bring it down to the frame and get it cleaned up and protected while its still in one piece.  The engine needs to be replaced, I know where I can get a 351 Windsor, I just have to make sure I can get it in there.  Ive also been considering cutting the top off and shaving the doorhandles off.  I figure while Im cutting the top off I might as well take everything out of the doors and weld those shut as well.  The interior would have to be replaced as well, Im thinking white leather with turquoise trim to match the paint job I have in mind.

That oughta keep me good and busy for a year or two.  lol  I know its not going to be easy, but after this last Christmas I think I can handle it.  In one week my dad and I had taken the frame out from under a Chevy Blazer, scavenged the body from a Jeep CJ-6 and the floor pan from an M38A1, joined the two body halves together adding 2 feet in the middle, and bolted it to the frame.  Cutting the top off the Bird should be a piece of cake!  Anyways, just wanted to let you all know whats up and say Hey.

Hey!

Sounds like game plan to me. Your welding the doors shut?

Yeah, I figure that welding the doors shut will help increase the rigidity of the body after I take the roof off.  And I think it looks a little cleaner with no door lines or handles.  Photoshop.

You know, I like the yellow, but it limits my options for interior colors to pretty much black/grey.  I like the heritage of the Thunderbird line and want to try to incorporate some of that in with my design. Short of trying to add some fins or a complete redesign of the front bumper, paint seemed the best.  :D

Not so true:disappoin . I'm thinking of a Dark Purple whenever I get around to doing my yellow86'. I plan on putting allot of color into the interior eventualy, with dark purple being the main color. I'm thinking touches of yellow here and there in the dash area, and maybe some other colors placed in tastefully, not too overwhelming, and even touches of chrome. I've considered black as well as Dark Purple. A dark or other blue may work as well also. The exterior color will always be yellow.

It's your car of course, and I've never met you, but welcome back all the same.:D
