ford related...ford M block 400 v8

I've had my '78 bronco on the road for 2 weeks with no problem then out of nowhere it started sputtering, and stall when no throttle is applied, have to hold it to the floor when I start it, even then it just chugs belching the ol' black smoke out of it. going down the road about 1/2 throttle it runs good, but I let off and it stalls. I set the carb up right. Duraspark maybe?

not likely, vac advance hooked up?  dist. bolt tightened down?  did you install the timing gear "straight up"

the duraspark II is pretty reliable.

How hot was it?  putting 1/4" spacers behind the spark box on the fenderwell is a plus to keep it from frying.

it's odd...I let off it sputtered, I put it in N and revved it...cleared up, was fine till I hit the brakes and came to a stop then stalled

I had this problem in my cougar but its been a while.  try running some seafoam down your carb to clean everything. it may be possible that your float could be sticking if it has sat for a while.
