Is anyone else sick of hearing about the iPhone?

I know I am. And I'm REALLY sick of friends-turned-fanboys pressuring me to ditch my Palm and my phone and buy one. It seems like every time I see them, "Are you going to get an iPhone?" "Why aren't you getting an iPhone?" "You know they're better than your phone and your Palm, right?" "But they're just so COOL!"

Then it always turns into a tirade against all things PC: "Microsoft stole Apple's ideas!" I heard that one four times tonight. "Apple makes a superior product!"

Can I throw up yet? People are standing in line as we speak in NYC to buy an iPhone, and my friends talk about it as if there's nothing, oh, I don't know, DEMENTED about it. If iPhone's had gender, these people would be arrested as stalkers. Good grief! People must really want to be cool or something. Should we be prescribing Prozac? I mean, there must be some serious problems with the self-esteem of a lot of people...it's like this is their only chance in life to ever be hip, and if they don't get an iPhone before it's all blase they'll miss it.

*hurl*

No. I'm NOT getting one. I didn't buy a Mustang because everyone else had one, and I'm not falling for this hype either. Remember the RAZR? I didn't fall for that, either.

Considering how SUCK ASS Microsoft's PDA OS is I am kind of excited.  The ONLY thing impressive about MS Pocket PC is the ability to use Exchange Push technology.  Other than that it is the most god awful product I have ever used..  And I've used many on many different platforms!!

As a long-time Apple product user, I can a) appreciate the iProduct flyer (brilliant, thank you!), and b) NOT recommend the iPhone right now. One never wants to purchase a first-generation Apple product. Things always get improved later on, with more features, and more importantly FIXES, for the same price or less. It would behoove people to wait a little longer if they can.

Now about the lines of people...there aren't going to be many iPhones to begin with. Here in my 'hood, it probably won't be an issue. But in big cities it's going to be a major issue. The stores aren't even getting the iPhone shipments until Friday! So those lining up now, you can say they're either really dumb, or really smart. Whatever floats their boats.

I really hope it lives up to the hype, as there's a lot riding on this phone, particularly to the stockholders. I don't like the non-replaceable battery...you'd think Apple would have learned from the iPod battery fiasco. I don't like that there's only one carrier for iPhone service (although I do have Cingular and they have been absolutely wonderful for me). But...things will improve, it will get better...hell, I predict even before this Christmas we'll see revisions in the iPhone and iPod (look for late October).

This morning, as the final pricing tiers were announced, I was tempted....the $59 monthly plan is affordable; would be right in line with what use, minute-wise, right now; includes unlimited data transfer; and, IF the EDGE network is available at my house, I could technically use the iPhone for a long-awaited high-speed Internet connection, possibly as a modem bridge. Like I said, it's tempting. But my logical side says to wait. ;)

Hopefully EDGE is worth the hype.. as I know its not available here and the high speed that is available is god awful slow.. so slow in fact its probably the same as a 14k dialup connection...

Now Sprints high speed... Woopee!  That shiznit is fast.. Can download at like 130k a second.. Fast in today's standards.... Hardly  but over a  cell connection?  Hell yeah!  I used to use my phone for internet on my Linux laptop (easier to setup than Windows, trust me) for field needs...

When I switched to Cingular I almost cried....

I blotted out the language in the pic to keep it clean. You can search for iProduct on the net for the real one...by the way, I have an iPod as well, but I waited until the 5g to get one. That's when it met my particular feature threshold.

I HATE the iPod software, by the way (on the unit as well as iTunes). This weekend I plan on loading Rockbox onto it instead.

I agree.  I hate hype in all forms and for all things.  The second something becomes popular, i have to abandon it.  Maybe that's why I drive a 20 y/o tbird.

Maybe you missed my point... Our cars are the opposite of the iPhone b/s.  That makes them classic and valuable.  Not just a passing fad.

I'm sorry guys but every commercial I sit in awe over a device potentially so far ahead of anything else in its competition.
