Someone has been screwing with my car for the past two days. First they broke the black plastic housing around my mirror. It wasn't that big of a deal to me I thought someone just clipped it with their mirror.

But when I went outside today I found this:

Great hey? They're obviously trying to steal my subwoofers, they probably know I have them cause they can hear me coming from half a block away.

Anyway I took out all of my trunk stuff, amp subs, etc..

Does anyone know how much it will cost to fix the lock? And if so would a body shop do the work?

New lock... Maybe $20. Bodywork... I duno. Sit and watch with a BB gun and a video camara. Catch them in action then nail um in the balls after you get the tape!

Grab a trunk lid from the boneyard and slip another lock into place.easy.The lid you have needs paint anyway.Shouldn't cost much to replace the parts.Paint, that's another story.Keep a lookout for the idiot(s) involved.they probably are teens that live near you.Watch out for your stuff, and good luck.Did you report it to the cops?

So get a whole new trunk lid? I didn't report it to the police, really no use.

And yes as soon as I saw it I thought "This wouldn't have happened if I shaved it".

Yep,a whole new lid.It will cost less to replace it than to have it repaired. They would've just tried to pry it from the bottom of the edge of the trunk lid.You should report it.Perhaps you can't get anything from it,but, the police may patrol a little more in yopur area, and,if it's happened to you,it has or will happen to someone else.Do you have a garage,or at least, back your car into your driveway as far as you can to prevent anyone from getting behind it for leverage to get in.Just throwing ideas out there.Good luck.

But if I got a new trunk lid that'd mean I'd have to get it repainted my cars color and have those stripes put on again. Then take it to the lock smith and have them make me a key for the trunk.

No I don't have a garage but I did reverse it into the driveway. They should be able to open the trunk with a pair of pliers but theres nothing in there.

So if I want to tell the cops about this do I just call 911?

This is why we don't blast our radios in our neighborhoods.  I've learned that from other friends mistakes.  Sucks that it happened.

Could be that or there was this sketchy looking feller that saw me fill up, and I have to pop my trunk to open the gas cap 'cause that button in the glovebox doesn't work. So he probably saw my MTXs then.

Anyway he lives on my street. This is complete and udder bullshiznit! Can't someone invest they're own money in they're own  car without having to deal with this bullshiznit of people trying to steal it?

So now a new trunk lid, new paint and then have a 200 dollar security system installed!

If you have a bodyshop fix the lid,it'll need paint anyway. It's cheaper to replace it.You can find a lock with keys.Just ask around here in the classifieds for someone parting out a Cougar and grab the lock and keys.I may have one when you're ready.

Thanks but theres about 3 junked Cougars near me with good trunks. I'll get a lid from them and get it painted.

The most ironic thing about this is about 2 weeks ago I went to a junkyard and found a Cougar with the same color interior as mine. It had the floor mats in great condition, mine didn't come with them so I threw them in the trunk. The key was in the trunk at the time. I went back a day later to find that someone took the keys, I proceeded to try to pry the lock open to get the mats. It didn't work, gave up much like the thieving s that prey on my car!

They do make a special tool to re-form that lock shape into the trunk. I know we can get them at work.  Also turn it down way before you get to your house. Maybe you need to design a cover to hide those subs when your trunk it open so no one will see those woofers.

You could put your box in the trunk, take your subs out drill holes through the bottom of the box and bolt it to the trunk floor. Security system would work too.
