AOD doesnt want to shift!!

it wont shift into 3rd gear until it is redlining for acouple seconds. i have lost acouple races because of that!! it just redlines for the longest time. when i pick my foot off the pedal and put it back down it shifts sometimes but it dogs out really bad, i didnt used to do that.

Check your TV cable - make sure it moves freely and that the clip that holds it in didn't disintigrate

i had to replace the governor in mine a while back. it was shifting hard into second and wouldn't shift into third at all. its could be going bad, but your best bet is to check and adjust your TV cable first.

lol, it's the kickdown cable. it's attatched to the throttle body with your throttle cable.

Passenger side, under the throttle body, easier to see with the rubber intake hose off, but not necessary.

Check to make sure it moves freely, both at the throttle body end and the lever at the transmission. My '88 Cougar had the lever at the transmission stick and it would only shift out of first at near redline.

Down by the shift linkage. There will be two levers: one large one for the shifter, one small one for the TV cable. It'll be easy to pick out, as it will have a cable attached

Overdrive Not Plugged In?

hey guys, wondered if u could help me out...bought an 88 cougar, and it seems to have no overdrive....if you're in OD...and under say 55mph everything's fine, but at the point where the overdrive should kick in, there's nothing there....the guy i bought it from says he put a different transmission in it, and i'm wondering if maybe he didn't reconnect the wiring for the EAOD, as all the other gears work, and it tends to get a little hot on the interstate stuck in 3rd gear (or 4th whatever)...any help would be greatly appreciated
