I drive my "prize possession" when and where I want. And belive you me, just because it has rock chips and 178,000 miles doesn't mean it's a "beater".

I started rubbing out the paint on the car, heres just a little bit of the progress, gives you an idea of how that mach 1 paint really should look.

also got the tailpipes on. the looks are nothing fancy, its all about function here. no fancy chrome tips or anything like that, yet. the drives side pipe needs to be moved towards the outside edge an inch or two. I also think they stick out a little too far. Id like them to exit right at the bottom of the bumper.

I think i might wash it today and really get to work on bringing back that paint. The back of the car is all oily from my leaking rear end cover. I need to get the gasket for it... apparently RTV doesnt work.

ok first off, your supposed to take care of a car, beater or not.  wow.  look at it this way.

it comes down to what you use it for... DD?  BEATER.  garage kept and looked after like a hawk... NOT A BEATER.

You're alone in that one, buddy. No one else defines Beaters by being driven daily. That's why we have the term Daily Driver. :)

My Tbird is my Daily Driver.  It's not the cleanest car around nor is it garage kept, but it is washed A LOT and I surely wouldnt call it a beater.

I drive my Cougar against the elements, and it is in pristine shape except for two dings, and needs a tune up. If you guard your car in a garage like a hawk and dont drive it, then you are wasting a car. A beater is a car that is like what daboss said. Rusty, barely runs, but still moves. My truck is not a beater no matter how much i drive it, the Cougar gets driven just as much, I treat the truck nicer when driving because it has to get me from A to B everyday. Mileage doesnt ruin cars, dumb drivers do. If you take care of your care, no matter the road conditions it will last. I'll drive the Cougar year round, and can keep it in the same condition. Test me.

That looks really good. That is no beater. I've had my share of beaters when I was young. I've had people drooling over my yellow 86', but most of the time the car feels like junk to me, but, after driving around with a brand new Mach1 for a few years, and now a brand new F150XLTSupercab, yes, anything 15 years or older will feel like a beater if it needs a little work. Trust me, it's no beater. I think you may want to change your choice in terms from "beater", to "used". After driving new for a few years it does spoil you. There are cars out there allot older, rustier, and need more work than allot of our cars, and yet, if it's the right car, will go for more money than most of us make in a year. And another note to you spoiled :hick:  southern car drivers, it is so wierd, we were sitting at AppleBee's in southern Louisiana, and I tried to find one, but even the beaters down there have no rust on em' (This was before Katrina mind you). I saw one old toyata w/a small amount of rust driving by, after 1 half hour of heavy traffic. It's JUST NOT FAIR!!!:shakehead

Holy shiznite! Day and night, man. That is anything but a beater. Keep her and keep her clean.

A "beater" is simply a matter of perspective same as "classic".

I remember 20 years ago my father telling me stories of taking his "beater" out in a field and jumping stumps with it when he was a kid.

It was a 32 Deuce Coupe :flame:

Heres some more "beaters", depending on who ya talk to.
