New member introduction May 28, 2007, 08:11:28 PM I have been lurking around for a bit and thought it might be time to introduce myself. This maybe a bit long winded so indure as much of it as you can.I actually came into possession of an 87 TC by accident. I have a 79 Bronco that I was building a 521 engine for. Things got a little out of hand, and the motor ended up being more than I wanted or needed for the Bronco. So I started looking for a new victim. A guy I work with, his dad had a few Thunderbirds that were going to be hauled to the crusher soon. I figured it couldn't hurt to take a look. I walked away with the 87 TC. It is in sad shape but straight and rust free. Not really worth restoring, but great for my new project.First off I am a SPEED FREAK. If it has 4 wheels and goes fast its for me, don't matter if its straight or twisties. Plans for the bird so far are a bit sketchy due to this being my first fox body since 1982. If anyone has ever heard of Land Speed Racing or Bonneville Salt Flats then you will know somewhat where I am headed. Here on the east coast we have a venue called the Maxton Mile. Basically a measured mile with the speed recorded at the end of the mile. Nice thing is its only a 45 minute drive for me. I have been involved with this venue, crewing on other cars, on and off for the last 5 years. It's time I have a ride of my own. What I am going after is one of the street legal class records. To do so with this size engine is going to take a run over 200 mph. In a bird body somewhere around 750-800 Hp. No problem there. Biggest items on the list are the chassis mods and necessary safety stuff. Goal here is to be able to drive it the 45 minutes to the track and still run over 200 mph. I know there will be doubters and nah sayers, but this ain't my first pony ride. Just time for my own ride. Know what it takes to do it and the comitment to do it. Looks like a great project car and a very good choice of car for street legal speed records since these cars are pretty aerodynamic. Glad to have you aboard! Quote Selected
