Paint code

Need any info on 1986 paint code 7Z. I can't find it on any charts that I see for that year, for ANY model. Thanks.

7Z is not listed in the '86(or '87) shop manual... Dunno...

Thanks for the link, I was on the site but didn't see that list. The top color is so far to the left on the door tag that it's way past the "PAINT CODE:" label. I have 1Q/7Z. Thanks alot.

1Q = Silver Clearcoat Metallic
7Z = Dark Charcoal Clearcoat Metallic (bottom of car)

M6008???

WTF is that? The VIN reads as a 85 Cougar with a 3.8 from Lorain.
Axle 8 is a 2.73 7.5" non-locking rear. HA Interior is Charcoal cloth/vinyl twin seats.

The color looks like Midnight Regatta Blue (3U) or Medium Regatta Blue Clearcoat (3Y).

Yeah, the paint code makes no sense to me...

The rest of the codes are correct. It looks just like Eric's '86 Blue Max, so I am pretty certain it is Midnight Regatta Blue. The car is also painted gray/ardent on the lower 1/4.

You can see the original paint in the far right of the picture.

The 1985 example on Eric's site shows a monocolored 3U, unlike mine.

That is the long version of paint code Midnight Regatta Blue.
Ford uses two codes for each color 3U is also code M6008A

It's hard to say why it got stamped with the long version of the paint code. Midnight Regatta Blue was a new color for 1985, maybe it's an early production car.

I would think the an auto paint supply store would have them in their books.
I have them listed on a piece of paper I printed off years ago.

I was just thinking, maybe your car was destined to be a Blue Max car. Ford may have used that paint code instead of the 3U code to differentiate them from the regular production.
Is there anyone here with a 1985 Blue Max edition that can see what their tag shows for the paint code?

The 157502 on the right side of the tag is where the "PTO/ SPL Order number" goes. This is from the 84 shop manual.

Maybe it was special ordered?
