Hear a 1938 Buick take off

I decided today to take my mom's video camera, a microphone we have, and put the camera in the trunk of the car plug in the microphone to the mic jack on the camera, close the trunk on the cord, and tape the mic to the bumper above the tailpipe.

this audio file is going from a neighborhood 30 mph road to a 40 mph 2 lane main road. i accelerated at about 1/2 throttle, i just let it rev up more. its a 3 speed, so in both 1st and second gears i probably hit well over 3000 rpm, likely about 3200. thats kinda pushin it for me. apparently at 4000 the car would top out at about 80-85 mph, i would NEVER think of taking it that high. at 2900 in 3rd gear, thats 55 mph. its comfortable cruising at this speed but a little noisy inside.

i did this just for you guys :D

notice the sound. its an inline-8 engine, with one manifold going to all 8 exhaust ports. this guy: http://gamma.nic.fi/%7Emarlin/september2002.html has made up headers for each half. does anyone think, as he mentions, this would make the exhaust note resemble that of a V-8? im considering doing it someday. id LOVE this car to sound like a v8. its pretty neat now (and unique!!!) but id love a v8 sound. dual exhaust maybe...

heres the engine (from an ebay car)

sometime ill make an in-car video, including how to start it (if anyone knows the secret dont tell!!!!)

enjoy!!!

Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

It sounds like a 40's move car sound effect. Cool:D

I still say the best sounding old school engine is a Ford flat head V8;)
