Need some help with electrical problem...... May 06, 2007, 06:11:28 PM I am in the process of getting my SVO back on the road. I installed the new engine and goodies today and have had the battery on the charger all day. I go to try and start it and the solenoid just clicks. I checked for voltage coming out of the solenoid going down to the starter and i have no voltage coming out of the starter relay. Battery voltage is 12.8 and voltage at the solenoid on battery side is 12.8? I am lost as to the problem. I am thinking the solenoid took a but kinda strange since it worked perfect when the engine came out a couple of months ago. ANy input would be appreciated. ThanksBill Quote Selected
Need some help with electrical problem...... Reply #1 – May 06, 2007, 06:38:03 PM I've had a solenoid go bad in my 89 SHO. Drove it to the store parked it came out nothing but click. Jumped it with a pair of pliers drove it to the parts store. New solenoid fired right up. They can go just like that. Put a new one in and you should be good to go. Quote Selected

Reply #4 – May 06, 2007, 11:58:36 PM thats wierd,, starter relay clicked and you had no power coming out. then adding a "ground strap" fixed it.you wont have power coming out unless your key is held in the start position, or the range selector switch wire is not hooked up, or the relay is just plain bad, either way if it clicked,, it was transfering power unless the relay contact was toast.i would have never guessed a ground strap.
