Wow, I didnt expect everyone to start flipping out over such a small detail that isn't going to affect much of anything.  Like I said, he told me I'd need to get mandrel bent piping if I was to go 2.5in piping.  And he did specifically say that they don't have that problem with 2.25in.  It's just a local shop, my town isnt big at all, I'm not expecting them to have all top of the line machinery.  I just want the job done right, and the owner (the guy I have been talking to) made it a clear point that he wants to do the job himself.  And if it looks like the exhaust they put on that Stang, I will be one very happy customer.  My dad's 383 runs on 2.25in exhaust, so if it's good enough for the Chevelle, it's good enough for my Tbird.

@Red LX - he said the 2.5in piping would end up being less than 2.25in in the bend, therefore eliminating all use for having the bigger piping.  I'm betting the 2.25 does get a bit smaller, but not as drastically.

Its not good enough for a 383.

I know every ler shop in my area, around 15 of them and none of them can bend 2.25 without it losing diameter.  There will be some loss with a non mandrel pipe bender even if its only a 20 degree bend.  Your 180's over the axle will have 10 inches of pipe smashed down to +/- 2" and be more oval than round.

Don't try and re invent the wheel son.

Youll be suprised at how much a 2.5" catback helps compaired to a 2.25"

Youll learn eventually.

Haha well, it would be "ler back"  2.5 (my lers are 2.25).  I'm sure it helps, but I'm not even looking for much more power than I have.  Honestly, even if I dont gain ANY horsepower from the exhaust (which I know wont happen, but thats not the point), I'd still be happy because it runs really strong...it would just sound and look a lot better.  It shoves me in the seat, impresses my friends, and whoops poser imports.  I couldnt ask for more.  And my dad's Chevelle goes like a bat outta hell now, even with the 2.25 system.  The Tbird shoves me in the seat, but the Chevelle snaps my neck.  When my Tbird finally gets to be released from it's DD duties and turns into my nice weather cruiser and show car, then I'll be picky.  For now, I'm just thrilled to have made the progress I have so far.  As a kid (I know...I still am a "kid" to a lot of people here...but I mean like elementary school age) I always, ALWAYS dreamed about having an American V8 car that would sit at stop lights just rumblin away, all badass-like.  I'm just a few days away from living that dream...and a lot sooner than I had imagined.

And what better way to piss off the neighbors then by driving down the street 8am Monday morning with a 5.0 and only headers and an H-pipe hooked up?  :D

Haha yeah I bet!  :hick:

But I'm sure the neighbors wouldnt be thrilled....too bad!

Nah, seriously, I dont want it to be obnoxiously loud.  I just want it to rumble and let people know that there might be a little somethin-somethin under the hood.  I'm sure it'll spark some interest as I pull into a cruise in with a bone stock lookin Tbird thats growling like a 5.0 Stang.

the cats help quite a bit! :hick:

last year my original exhaust was rusty at the ler, i just cut it off right before the ler :hick:  sounded nice, but i was very surprised. i expected it to be blasting, really wasnt. i guess the combination of ONE 2.25 inch pipe, cat, and manifolds not headers all made it pretty reasonable. it wasnt as loud as it is now with headers, off road h pipe and dumped flowmasters, its almost obnoxious now!

My brother had an '84 F-150 with a 302 a couple years ago that him and my other brother put longtube headers on and were gonna do exhaust, except that the exhaust didn't fit. So, he ended up driving it with open headers for a few days.

I couldn't believe how quiet it was, I've heard cars will full exhaust and lers that were louder. Didn't sound as great as I figured open longtubes would either...I guess the py low compression didn't help either.

I'm sure you'll love the sound.  I know nothing is more satisfying than going out on a cold morning and hearing my car snap to life.

Seriously though, Longtubes on the new Stangs with any sort of aftermarket lers equals pure shag.  That  4.6 is one of the nicest sounding V8's out there.  I have a Borla catback with Hooker long tube headers on my T/A with no cats.  3" all the way back, and let me tell you, it screams, but just doesn't compare to the 4.6.
