Cool, wierd discovery...

To give y'all some backstory, I got interested in vinyl last year sometime and since I've found a bookstore over in PA that buys & sells pretty much any kinda media you can think of.  It's called Half Price Books.  Of course, they have a huge section of vinyl records.  I haven't counted but I bet I have close to 100... most of 'em are probably from the huge $1 bin.

On my last outing to the store I bought a few records, CCR, Alice Cooper, and one that I took some flak from my buddy for buying... Eddie Rabbit's Greatest Hits, Volume II.  I bought it just based on the cool 1980's-style album art.  Looks kinda like this:

Anyway, I busted out these records to give 'em a listen this morning before I get to bed.  I slid the record & sleeve out of the cardboard sleeve of the Eddie Rabbit & something else fell out along with it.  I was thinking, oh, the old-timey equivalent of liner notes, etc, right?  Nope, it was three autographed promotional photos, like you get at concerts.  And surprisingly they weren't of Eddie Rabbitt.  There's one for the band Heart, signed by all the band mebmers, also Quiet Riot, and finally a Rod Stewart.  I'm no expert, but these autographs look totally genuine and were probably part of someone's concert memorobilia.  And they ended up selling them off for 50 cents for all three of 'em. I know they probably aren't worth squat, but , it's a cool kind of discovery to make.

They may be worth a little cash.Look into it and see what happens. If the autographs mean nothing to you,you may be able to sell them and make a few bucks you can use on something else.

That is a cool discovery.
I love the vinyl records. I've been converting them to mp3 format and burning them on cd's to conserve my originals.

Most people in my area think they're gold so they usually don't sell for less than $10 each.

The autograph find though is awesome. My aunt used to have a ton of concert memorabilia, programs, posters, shirts from all different groups from the mid-late 70's through mid 80's... she threw them all away when she moved to a different house 6 years ago.

Threw away!?!  Sheesh!  Until this, my only real autograph was from Sweaty Teddy Nugent back when my buddy went to see him & Skynyrd a few years ago.  Got to shake his hand & everything (I think it was July and he wished us both 'happy hunting season'.)  I actually went to see Skynyrd, no idea who the 'Nuge really was, but now I'm a big fan of his work.  Got a record or two of his.

On the MP3 conversion thing.. I have the capability to do it, but I don't think my albums, or my turntable are really up to the task.  I've got a low-end Audio-Technica turntable and a lot of the records sound kinda poopy except a couple of 'em.  Namely the Eminem Encore album that I bought new (wish I'd have left it sealed... the tracks are listed differently on the sleeve than they are on the actual album.)  That and my Dire Straits album are both like brand new.  I should really invest in something to clean up these records.

Anyway, I think once I get some shut-eye here soon (I work midnights) I'll be going over my record collection to see if there are any more hidden treasures among these albums.

I'm into that kinda stuff as well.  I think I might have a Sinatra album or two among this stuff.  It's tough because at the store I usually go to, they have a small section of records that are more than $1.  Among that they have an entire Sinatra section.  It's tough not to impulse buy.

I need to find a better store, though... a lotta the stuff at this store is... less than desirable.  Whether it's because of the condition or just the selection of artists, I dunno, but the most 'desirable' record I've found there, besides the Dire Straits one, was Black Sabbath's Paranoid.  Paid $6 for it and it sounds like hell.

I need to make a trip out to this place:

Newer record players with expensive *gasp* needles go a long way in making old vinyl sound good.

here in Ga i've searched high, low, above that, and below that, and i cant find any good records anywhere.  i've been a dj for about4 and a half years now, the only record shop that had current records in the state of ga has now been closed.  so all i can do is hunt for old records and honestly i cant bring myself to go hunting for something that i prolly wont use (its not like your ganna find anything good, although i found an "ol' wahlen(sp?) jennings record that has a couple guests like willie nelson... i mean i could mix in some walen and nelson to some hip hop (dunno if you've heard it, but like the rap song that has ray charles singing ga on my mind).

the delima about not being able to go to a place and get current vynle is that i have to order them online.  i mean online i cant get just about anything.  but its summer now, so the UPS truck is dark brown, it'll hit prolly in the 90's in ga till mid summer which is in the 100's with TOO MUCH HUMIDITY so by the time i get it, it'd be broken, cracked, or waved up really bad.

but yeh, good find.  the quiet riot actually might bring some money compaired to the others.  not much tho, but never know.

but yeh, i have 2 numark direct drive TT200 turntables and an american audio Q-d5 dj skillz signature series mixer.  i've done some parties and gatherings (dont get paid shiznit) but going from song to song like that is easy.  freeform mixing is VERY difficult.  (might sell them for 300 and get the HO convert from the money, but its hard to let my decks go like that... selling your children is psychotic!

Now you made me wish I kept all my Pink Floyd albums. I even had a picture disc of Dark Side of the Moon, as well as a few other special rare LP's. Use to have everything they ever put out on LP. You would be surprised at who may find value in what you have or find. One persons trash is anothers gold sometimes. Nice find. I no longer have any albums. The worst that can happen is that they will go up in value, just because they are LP's. I can barely remember the name, Eddie Rabbit. Who knows, some older woman could be looking for that album for some sentimental childhood reason. I just noticed you have a B-52's song under your user name. I am amazed how many younger people are into stuff I've listened to for years, and your only 5 years older than my son.
