wierd sound and then a power gain?

ok well my transmission if some of you remember blew out some coolant lines.  as an update, the cooler i installed is working perfectly and the only problem is in first gear when i granny start off from a stop.  it seems to slip and catch abruptly, but other than that the trans is fine.  so if your far from home late at night and you lose the trans coolant lines on the AOD, you can abuse the shiznit out of it with little or not atf for about 20 miles to get yourself home to fix the lines b/c my trans is working now.  there was a break in period at first, but after about 500~ miles it'll work 99% as good as before.

anyway, to get to the fittings/lines i had to drop the stock Y pipe.  since it was already off the car i gutted the 2 forward cats.  as i was breaking in the trans the car ran like shiznit.  theres a road that i take, and i have to take a right and at the top of the hill that says 45.  well when i got the trans broken in, i'd hit that sign at 45 in i'd say 2nd.  over a couple weeks my fuel mileage hp was on a downward slope.  to put it in perspective instead of meeting the 45 mph sign at 45, i'd be winding the car out and make it to the sign at about 35.  the car felt gutless.  1st and 2nd were a joke  no low end power or top power, normal mid range power, and third was like a power gear.

now to the crazy thing.  i left my house and i was headed out to my mom's house.  well i forgot my cell and cigs b/c i was late.  i turned around got on it gettin back to my house, when i came to a redlight where i turn left it was green and no traffic comeing.  i was going around that turn and i heard the craziest sound.  it sounded like something shot out of my exhaust, and at the same time, when i had it at half throttle it took off like i had floored it.  now, to put this into perspective, i can reach that 45mph sign at 65 now.  first and second are insane now.  infact i cant remember what road i was on but a modified NEW civic SI was in traffic with me.  we both got on it (dunno how fast, it was rolling start, which should give him an advantage.)  and his bumble bee exhaust kicked into overkill but i pulled on him like he was a pinto.  the only power mod i have is 2 gutted cats.  not only that but i had 2 people in the car with me.  he had a aem? whatever cold air intake on it (he had the sticker) and when i shut down he did the ricer flyby.

but, here's why im posting this, since i couldnt get to the 3rd cat b/c the exhaust system from the Ypipe back was welded.  i feel like the 3rd cat got clogged with debrees and was choking the engine way down.  is the only logical explanation for the power gain along with whatever shot out of my exhaust possibly could be that a good chunk of the 3rd cat broke and flew out of the exhaust giving me full catless exhaust giving me such a huge power gain?

i mean now... i can scare people by how fast i accelerate.  people thats ridden with me always hoots and hollers about how good it pulls.  i mean it actually puts g's on your head, and i've never had that car do that.  everyone says when you gut the cats you'll notice a difference... but i didnt think it'd make my car twice as fast.  im scared to even push it all the way through 3rd (on the street)  oh yeh, and even when im behind someone and go to pass them from thier rear bumper... i'll go from 50-55 to shuttin it down at either 75 or 80 and all i did was over take the other car and i shut down once im around them.  this is insane!

so yeh, 2007 honda civic SI with fram intake kill. but  no cats and a 50 series could do this?  its that just a taste of what bolt ons could do?  sorry for the long post, but the power gain i got from whatever this was is huge enough for me to get excited enough to post about it!! :hick:

Pull the exhaust back off of the car,hollow out the 3rd cat,and call it a day.

you gutted which cats?

the precats up near the headers on my car are empty,, as were the precats on both my 84's.  Ive never seen them with any carbon element installed but others here say there is , or,, was suppose to be a carbon element in there.

the third cat you say you could not get to is the main one,, and you say it was welded? 
must have been welded by someone afterwards because all i know is that you can undo the  after the cat and look up the ass end of it.
i busted mine out right there with a pry bar ect.  I started up the car and shot all the  out with the engine ,, nice big loud noises:evilgrin:

Yeah,, gutting the cats gain you power, your cats must have been really hosed cause most people say "you will notice a difference" but not like you are saying.

i always tell people that they should look under the car if it was just drove at night and see if it is glowing slightly.  If it is, the cats are clogged or clogging.

in normal conditions, they should never really clog,, its when rings wear or rich conditions occure and the emissions system isnt working that all the deposit  starts to happen.  Plus nowadays we dont really know what is going into gas to make if flameable anymore.  I dont think the gas of today is like it was as little as 5 years ago,, imho.

lol i know! if i had a catless HO my god... i'd scare my self (very hard)

well my "pre-cats" (quotes so i remember the name) were not empty, nor had a carbon element.  it took me a whole day to get to the 90 degree precat and knock all that loose.  in my precats i had this ceramic honeycomb brick basically, and what was even wierder was some fuzzy with gold specks stuff came out too.  i should have taken a picture the pile of ceramic material i had knocked out was 2feet in diam and 3 inches tall... A LOT OF CERAMIC to say the least.

and yeh, the 3rd, or primary had some work done on it.  see back when i was a dumbass, they were building a 4 lane road behind a super walmart where deep woods used to be.  me and a friend with a mitzo diamante went back there and i was doin doughnuts and all the fun things you can do with RWD (even with an open dif) in that dirt and i, being a 18yr old dumbass let him drive it.  we traded cars basically, his was NO fun being fwd... all i could do was yank the e-brake..  anyway, we had made some ruts and he wasnt as good of a driver as i thought and hit one sheeeeering my ler inles right off.  so i took the car to his dad's house sparking and such down the road people trying to point it out like it wasnt obvious that the ler washiznitting the bottom side of the car :dunno: cut the exhaust off right above the axle, threw it in the trunk and headed home to discuss what me and my dad are ganna do with it.

long story short, the guy welded the front  to the 50 series my dad got me, and then from there back welded everything.  the rear  is welded closed, not the bolts welded, the entire .  so theres no taking it off unless getting it redone.  so thats why i couldnt knock the shiznit out of the primary.  i think debree from the precats either built up pressure on the primary or flew out of one of the precats and knocked a hole clear through the primary (if it has a ceramic internal like the precats did)

this really makes me want to stop wasting my money on CD's and DVD's so i can save for the HO conversion.  or shiznit atleast get the AC running or deleted and deleting the smog pump. while i accumilate the HO parts.

the gain, one a scale of 1-10 is a 7 for what mod it is.  (btw as i just remembered.  when the ler guy gave the car back he even commented on how quiet it was and said i prolly had a clogged cat.)

Spend a couple hundred bucks and get a nice set of duals installed at a ler shop.That way,it's done right,you know what you have,and you will have made the breathing easier for your car.Nothing is "rigged" that way.

Yeah man the HO will make you  yourself.  I'm 7 days away from getting my true duals put on too...lets see what kinda power boost that gives me over the stock manifolds and y pipe :D .

I blew chunks of a clogged convertor out of a tailpipe on one of my older cars.  It shot out pretty far and scared the  out of the wife (we were dating back then)

the cats have been clogged for a long time.  about 5 i'd say, 5 years of build up.  car out of tune b/c worn out LOT ROTTED electronics.  it ran rich, you could smell it with the windows up... not bad, like perfume.  after i went to nascar tech and got the basics down, i've pretty much retuned this engine.  you know adjustments here and adjustments there.  i live on this road called ramp road in lagrange Ga, it goes to a boat ramp on west point lake.  about a month ago i was trying to get rally notes runnin on it , b/c no ones there at night and its never busy with boaters either, but its a 7 turn left right, and i had no problem with maintaining speed while accel and deccel while noting the speeds....  i cant do it anymore lol instead of an open "track" its turned into a technical masterpiece, which cant be done at night with faded headlights. (before the exhaust incedent, light wasnt a factor.)i was considering mounting some big ass monster truck size halogens on the nose of the car lol.  i'll most likely weld a 4 eye lookin reflector and modify some clear gts covers to go over that.  give the lights a sunken in look to them with HID's (the blue lights on mercedes etc.  if aerobird makes that duck tail that'd be all i need besides a hood to get my car lookin good with very little body work and rattle cans.  tomarrow im ganna hit that road and see what it's really like.  it was a third gear "track" (on and off the gas) but i think at some point i'll have to go to overdrive.
