Side Marker / Turn signal idea

so i want to try to modify my front side markers on my 86 cougar to flash with the turn signals when i turn them on.  this means i need a socket that will do dual-filament bulbs.  i can find sockets like the ones in the back of the car, but they are to big to fit into the side marker.  does anyone have any idea's how to do this, or if it's possible... or if anyone knows what kinda of socket/bulbs i can get that will work to do this.

thanks in advance for any help you may have!

You can do this very easily with your existing sockets and bulbs. To do this simply cut the black wire going to the side marker bulb (this wire is the bulb's ground) and then connect this wire (the wire coming from the bulb, not the wire coming from the harness) to the turn signal wire at the turn signal light (should be white with a light blue stripe on right side, light green with a white stripe on left side).

What this will result in is that when the headlights/park lights are OFF the side marker bulbs will flash WITH the turn signals. When the headlights/park lights are ON, the side marker will flash OPPOSITE the turn signal (when turn signal comes on, side marker goes out, when turn signal goes out, side marker comes on). When the turn signal is turned off and the headlights/park lights are turned on the side marker will light as normal.

This, by the way, is how most older General Motors vehicles are wired.

i got it done today.  looks great.  i do have a question, though.  do the turn signal lights (bottom) usually run when the headlights are on?  mine are on now, but i don't remember them doing so before the modification. just curious.  thanks again!

According to the wiring diagram those lights have three wires, so I'd say yes
