Getting locked out

When I pull the door handle to get out of the car the door opens, but the lock doesn't seem to fully unlock. If I shut the door and try to get in, it's locked again. I figure I should ask if anyone has any opinions or experience on the matter before I go tear the door apart. Any ideas? My car's an 87 base model and I have power locks in case it matters. If I use the power locks to unlock it first, it works just fine (stays unlocked).

The latch is getting seized up. You might have to remove it (A ROYAL PITB) to lube it up and free everything. It happened to my old Sport.

Sounds like the power lock actuator.  When they go bad they tend to seize up.  I had this exact situation happen on my '86.
