There's plenty to do. In between running ABM, shipping boxes, making re-orders, and fielding phone calls/emails/PM's I'm swamped on "open" days. Plus dealing with painting the office and the rest of the honey-do list on the house. On top of all that Layla's been apart since January, John's TC since Febuary, and I still have to take care of the truck, g/f's GP GT, John's GTO, neighbor's Explorer, and the rest of the family's cars. :hick:

Stupid Sport! How do you guys work on these 5.0's?? There's so much stuff in the way!

It's easy - we just move all that ABS and PRC stuff to the side. Oh, wait, we don't have to worry about that
2015 Mustang GT Premium - 5.0, 6-speed, Guard Green - too much awesome for one car

Pfft, the 4.6 and the LSx's weren't designed by COMPLETE morons. If I ever find the guy that came up with the water pump/front bracket assembly on the roller 5.0 I swear I will gouge his eyeballs out with a plastic Taco Bell spork. Of course the fact that they let the monkey loose on bolt sizes doesn't help (he got the TC's too, stupid standard motor with metric accessories).

And I will record it and laugh hysterically because you said SPORK!

OK fine.  Do a header swap on a 99-04 4.6 Mustang.

At least ALL the bolts will be metric instead of only half of them :hick:

Although I DO have to admit, absolutely NOTHING is as bad as working on a 4th gen f-body. I had a 96 LT1 and OMG that thing was a *&%$!!! You need a lift to change the plugs, you have to pull the entire front cradle from the bottom to swap motors, ahhhh!!

No wonder I like my 2.3T, I replaced EVERY bolt under the hood, and all of the bad Ford designs, and it's a joy to work on! AMC's are too, the V8's have a small "footprint" and the engine bays are HUGE.

WOW, a little behind on the posts but I just learned that I have a Sport thunderbird! All this time I thought it was an LX. I just checked the VIN on my car to see if it had a 61 after the FABP and it does. I got to thinking after reading in here that they have blacked out trim. Mine has all the blacked out trim and a "star wars" dash. Which I have never seen any other Tbird with a full digital dash and very rarely a digital speedo. Might be sad, lol, but this excites me! I wonder what else I will learn....

I have a working SO computer if you need it. I pulled it out of my Bird. Dumb question but is the TFI module ok? Is the egr working ok? Your best bet would be checking all the sensors to see if they're getting juice. I bet your problem lies somewhere with a sensor.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

I'm trading Vinnie for an ECU and some clips ;)

I have NO idea if the TFI is good because the dizzy bolt is stripped. I do get enough spark out of any plug wire to zap John though :hick:
The timing light reads bright too, so I honestly don't think it's spark.

The EGR rusted off of my old Cougar and it still ran :P

I'm going with HG's. The oil looks green and the coolant looks like oil :hick:

Probably 80-85% of 85-88 Thunderbirds and Cougars had a digital speedo. The base dash had a digital speedometer with buttstuffogue fuel and water gauges, and idiot lights for BAT and OIL.

As for being sad - don't be. The Sport is actually a better car IMO (here comes the hate mail and death threats from LX owners). You get a traction-lock rear, quad shocks, stiffer springs, bigger sway bars, and a floor shifter. The Sport was kinda an in-between car - it was in between the LX and TC.

Mike: I dunno if bad HG's would prevent the car from starting, unless it was bad on just about every cylinder. It would run like a bag of shiznit, and smoke, and belch, and other nasty things, but unless it was hydro-locked it should still start. Blown head gaskets on both sides of the engine would be highly unlikely (remember, this is a real engine - two banks of four cylinders :flip:).

The timing being off is still a possibility, regardless of your results with the timing light. The cam timing could be off if the timing chain slipped a tooth, and somebody else may have rotated the distributor when trying to get it running again. You did say the dist bolt is stripped, so unless you did it somebody else was at it.

Another possibility - are the plug wires on in the correct order?

And a question: If the car is a write off, why are you bothering to get it started anyway, if you're only gonna take it apart? ;)

I've never worked on an LT-1.  I watched someone change plkugs on one once.  I laughed at his misfortune.....
