What is the transmission code on the door tag?

In 1985, C3s weren't available for 3.8s. I don't think they were available for them in '83 or '84 either.

I looked a little more. The C3 was never offered with the 3.8L. It was offered with the 2.3L and the I6 200.
The later I6 200s used a partial small block bellhousing, so someone could use that bellousing and slap it on a 3.8L

I was gonna say the same thing. The only aero-fox car ever to have had the C3 was the 83-86 TC and 84-86 XR7. No 3.8 or 5.o models ever had it. Blackcougar71: If your car happens to have had a C3 installed at some point and for some reason you can hardly expect us to know it. We (and CoolCats) gave you info based on factory installations, not back-yard adaptions.

When I go to an auto parts store I usually have to bring parts in and match them up. For example my car had points and if I tell them I need points for an '86 t-bird there is no listing for it obviously and they say you'r car doesn't have points. I just say it's for a '72 mustang and then they can find it. Over the years I kept track of what parts came from what year and model of car so when I need to replace a part I can say it is for that application. However if it is a project that someone else has started some times you have no way of knowing where the parts came from. As discussed here before, the guy at the auto store only goes by what the computer tells him, therefore if the computer doesn't list it you'r car doesn't have it, even though you can argue till you'r blue in the face that it does. Therefore if you don't know you can't expect anyone else to know.

I have since installed a PERTRONIX unit so it doesn't have points now. Note ballast resistor.
