Clutch, Spec vs Centerforce

my clutch is on its way out and I'm not putting another cheap OEM clutch back in it,  which clutch would you prefer as being better Spec or Centerforce? I can go Spec Stage 3 for $319 or Centerforce for about $300. is the centerforce a better clutch?

i got the spec stage 3 for like 285 from ultrarev.com its cheaper there  definitely better than the centeforce and the techs at spec are awesome and very responsive with all your questions

Spec has had a rash of horrible failures over the last 2 years and their customer service is getting worse and worse. I've never used the Centerforce, but since my Spec disaster 4 years ago, I've put nothing but RAM's in my cars (92 SHO, 86.5 Nissan truck, 87 TC, 88 TC) and I LOVE them. I put the "OE Style" one in my 87 and it held 22psi no problems and still had a stock pedal. Layla has one of the Carbon-Kevlar 6-puck race clutches and it is AMAZING. Their customer service is top-notch as well.

I use the centerforce DF in my 88TC and it has a stock feel to the pedal. I did the break in they say too and added an extra 200 miles to it to make sure and it has been great. I do abuse my 88 but I am going to put the DF in my 87 TC also when the stock clutch finally starts to go.

I used the Centerforce Dual Friction all last season after the 2 year old King Cobra smoked due to the torque from the Kenne Bell. The Centerforce has a lighter pedal than the King Cobra but holds better and can even recover from an occasional screw-up in the burnout box. Put me down as a satisfied customer...

I have a centerforce "stage II" pressure plate and disc in my car. I like it so far, but the only thing I had to compare it to is a stock replacement, and I'm not putting down tons of power either (I estimate about 250 hp)

Also, one thing to keep in mind, I don't know how long the dual friction is supposed to last, but the Spec Stage III will probably only last about 30K.

I have the Spec stage 3 plus behind my Twin Turbo setup and it seems to be holding great. The Stage Three plus has much better engagement than just the Stage Three from what I am told at Spec. Before this I had the King Cobra clutch and I burned that up in third gear at 12 pounds of boost. I see that Spec now has a new clutch out that is a twin disk which looks like a nice clutch that is very streetable that holds the power too.

I've heard horror stories in the F-body world about Spec.  Hell, my buddy ordered a Stage 4 Plus for his Vette, and they shipped it to him with the wrong bolts to bolt it to the flywheel:punchballs: .  Called them the next day and they said they'd overnight the right ones to him... they came 4 days later via UPS Ground. 

I hear nothing but good things about RAM clutches, and a lot of other guys swear by Centerforce.  Personally I'd steer away from Spec.

Another rash of failures have been reported on TurboFord since this thread was started. Spec is also no longer a LS1GTO.com sponser. The LSx crowd has, as a whole, pretty much abandoned Spec.
