digital dash noise

i didn't see a thread about this so i wanted to know if anyone knew of a fix before i have to replace it.....  especially when it's cold, the speedometer gears in the digital dash are quite noisy... i thought it was the cable itself, but i replaced it and it's still making noise.... of course it gets louder and quicker the faster you go, and after a while of driving, it almost goes away, but every morning, it rattles again.... is there a fix for this???  thanks

Ha!  My 83's digi dash does this too.  I was going to replace the cable but I'm glad I didn't!  Mine happens to get quiter when i go around right turns.  I figure I'll take it apart and grease it up a bit.

you know... this made me think of if i got my heater on and i run the car over 85, or even at 70ish with a stiff breeze its like flaps open and the blower motor fan blades start hitting them...  anyone else have this happen.

so there is a gear that makes noise inside digi dashes?  hmm when i mod the speedo i'll look into it.. it might just be grit.

Only 83-84's had the speedo cable and gear. 85 and newer had all electronic (speed sensor on the tranny), whether you had digital or buttstuffogue.

I've never had the blower fan make noise at speed, though I have had the windshield trim vibrate at 70-80 MPH, and it's ed annoying (and loud). My old 87 Sport and current 88 both did it. The Sport I fixed by having the windshield guys put some "dogshiznit" (you know, that black caulking that comes in strips) under the trim when they replaced the windshield. I have yet to fix the '88...

I also now have a blower noise, too, but it happens whether the car is moving or not. I can thank the squirrels for depositing about 10,000 maple tree seeds in the housing, I think - haven't taken it apart yet, but when I removed the air filter housing and battery tray to take he fenders off I found billions of the things in those places. I'll fix that when I swap the blue dash in...
