T3 Turbo Options

I'm looking for a new T3 or T3/T4 turbo in the 5-600 dollar range.  Would this one work?  Any other links you guys can find would be appreciated.

Well, first off, I can't tell you if it'd work since they don't tell you jack shiznit about that turbo. The only thing I can tell from the pics is that it's a .48 A/R on the turbine side, and it's the wrong turbine outlet for you to use anyway (you want the 5-bolt style). That also looks like a T4 turbine housing to me, which won't bolt up to your manifold.

I'd stay away from that since they give you no useable information and you have no idea what you're getting.

If you don't mind a used turbo, check on ebay. I see nice hybrids go on there in the $300-400 range all the time.

+1 on ebay shopping, but stay the hell away from anything SSAutochrome sells.  VERY py turbos.  Horror sories include using GLUE to hold the thing together and 1 week old turbos grenading.

Well, no...

Basically, if it has a compressor housing that looks like this:

Stay away. Notice the big square tag on the compressor housing? That's a dead giveaway that it's one of the cheap chinese junkers.

The general rule of thumb for ebay turbos is, "If it seems too good (cheap) to be true, it probably is." Anything you see that has the Turbonetics logo on it, is pretty much a sure bet. Otherwise, just look for stuff that has the AiResearch or Garrett lettering on the compressor housing.

My IHI has that square tag thing on the compressor housing... Is this bad?  It worked fine before.  The compressor housing says "Warner-ISHI"  ?? Who knows.

Nah, anything that says "Garrett," "AiResearch," "Warner-Ishi", etc on it is the real thing.

On ebay, basically any "new" turbo you can buy for less than $400, stay away...unless you come across some sort of name brand T3. There are some "new" T3's on there that claim to be "48 trim" which is just weird...I don't trust those either.

Ok, thanks.  For now I'm gonna put the IHI back on but I will keep this info in mind.  Thanks!

If you want a T3, look over on turboford...there's usually somebody selling one over there.

However if your engine is still mostly stock, the IHI will get the job done.

edit: just looked at your cardomain, did your T3 blow up or something?
