Hello Everyone!

Hey everybody Im new to the fourms since I just Acquired a 87 turbocoupe but im mostly a mustang guy but wanted a nice daily driver so got a TC for cheap!  I got it with a blown motor which is no big deal. I already have another motor for it but the questions are:
It has the automatic which is not a problem but Do they make torque convertors/ shift kits for these trans? If so, where could I acquire one.  The other question is that If they are fairly expensive to acquire, Do I need a different driveshaft if I throw a T-5 behind the turbo 4?
Another thing that was coming into my mind was a different turbo but the question was if I went to a T3/t4 Hybrid, would I just need to get bigger injectors and fuel pump or would I have to get a stand alone ECU to make everything work right with the air and such since the car is speed density if I am not mistaken.  Thank you to everyone who took time to read this post and insert your info!!

Welcome! Where at edzactly in PA is Stroudsburg? I live about 40 miles form Pittsburgh.. I have a driveshaft that was behind a T5, and I have a good hydrolic bellhousing. I would like to keep the transmition though for a backup. I would sell these for cheap if you want to go the 5 spd route (highly suggested over the automatic), or you will be doing a transmition swap soon anyway.. HTH

Nice to have another Turbo Coupe on the board. First off they do make shift kits for your tranny. Like T.C. 83 said those tranny's are known to be weak. The Auto cars ran less boost than the 5spd cars. If yo go the 5spd route get a 5spd ECU to go along with it. You shouldn't have to upgrade the injectors to put the T3-4 Hybrid on there. I put one on my 84 Turbo coupe. I did upgrade it to the 87-88 intake, intercooler, brown top injectors. That should be what you already have. I will spool a little slower than the IHI that is on there but you will have alot more top end with the Hybrid.  I also have the cable clutch in mine. Only 87-88 came with the Hydro setup.  Also make sure to check out this 2.3turbo site. http://www.turboford.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi
Good luck

Thank you for the information Mr. "ipsd" and that answered most my questions I had and Such but now I have to ask, where is the trans ECU located and are the driveshafts the same between 5 spd and the al4d or is the lengths different? thank you for responding though!

I do believe that the trans comupter is part of the engine ECU in 88. I don't think the 87 had electric tranny. I could be wrong though. I have no clue on the drive shaft. If you were to head over to turbo ford they could answer your question.

Hey Ace, I wouldn't throw a hybrid on an otherwise stock car. You won't like it. I currently have a 57 trim I got a sweet deal on, but I'm looking at going back to a .60/.63 T3, as the hybrid spools up alright with what i have done, but I don't care for how high up you have to run it to really make good power.

If the IHI is OK, why not stick with it for now? Otherwise, throw a T3 on there, it's a lot cheaper than a hybrid too.

the only thing that is stock on the car is the bottom end the head has aboot 2 grand worth of porting and polishing done to it with a 5 angle valve job and all that great stuff and Has a Ford Motorsports cam in it Ihave the number of thecam at my house but not at work haha.  The car that the 2.3 came out of use to be a autocross car and won a few races and such and I took it out of my notch because I had a 306 for it and I can get a t3/t4 hybrid for a very resonable price from one of my friends thats why I was asking aboot it!
