Speed control Reply #1 – March 14, 2007, 01:36:09 PM Big MikeI am having the same prob with my 88 Bird.. I asked this question on another site (can't post a link yet) here is the responce I got from a fellow named Cougarcragar---------------The cruise control has several weak spots in those cars. First, pull the collar off of the steering column. This is the piece that clips in just behind the steering wheel. Once you've done that, crank your head behind the wheel and examine the brass contact rings (3) on the back of the wheel. It's common to see the plastic deteriorate here, which makes the rings loose. If that checks out, it could be an electrical glitch, a bad servo, or a vacuum leak. Make sure the fuse is good, then check for broken vacuum lines on the firewall.I lost the cruise control in my '88 XR7, but I didn't know what went wrong. I replaced the servo (in driver's side fender) and it was as good as new.-----------------------Haven't had a chance to try it yet Quote Selected

Speed control Reply #3 – March 30, 2007, 09:38:11 PM I have the EVTM Troubleshooting pages for the 88 Tbird/Cougar scanned (2.3 turbo engine) I could probably do a scan for a different engine if needed. It's a schematic on one page and the verbal trouble shooting on another. Email me at pmdunham (at) centurytel.net and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Be sure to let me know what engine you have. Quote Selected
