Heres the deal so far. We have to do a project for school involvement. And my groups idea was a student / school sponcered car show. It's all up in the air as to what will happen, how can show and what can be there. But If any one local wants to come out, I'll try to work it in. I'd love to see a few extra fox guys. If you all have anty ideas as to what we should do , events, anything. Any help is nice. And remember above all this is for school. Ya never know, we may convert a few ricers.

Ok, so far what the idea is should be that all the kids in our school will show a car, if they want. There should be atleast a few classes ( stock, modded, racer, classic....) and maybe something like a car wash to sponcer it. Talked to the prinl about it and got the inital OK but he needs details before it's set in stone. Estimated date is mid spring, before school is out. More details to follow

I'm out...the car doesn't get coverage until the beginning of May, and even then it's going straight to my mechanic for work. I probably won't have it back until late May. Sorry.

Are there any idea's of what to do even. I mean I've been to shows before but this is a small town, highschool show. I don't think a burnout contest and racing at quaker is in the question. I'm thinking door prizes, a few small trophies and maybe thats it. I'm not even sure it will kick off but it's worth a try for the grade.

Some of the smaller shows I have been to have basically what you are proposing. Small door prizes and small trophies. If you can manage a few local sponsors, you should be set.

Sounds reasonable. What would some good prizes be for a mixed crowd? A few hardcore ricers, a few truck guys, few everyday guys. I have the only 2 cars that are "preformance" minded unless they bring in the family cars, which is still cool. Still working out details but what should I ask for? The parking lot for a day, a small bon fire maybe to do hot dogs, and police supervision?

Are you charging a registration fee?
If so, (or even if you manage to get some paying sponsors) hire a dj for music.
I've never been to a weekend cruise that didn't have some type of entertainment and a dj is a good choice.

Burnout contests are cool but the liability I'm sure is something your school doesn't want any part of. That and everyone will end up doing burnouts daily all because "you let the car show do it."

If you get the funding, see if you can perhaps get an ice cream truck or lunch wagon to sit there for the day. If people are going to attend a show for a day, they'll want to eat something. That way you or anyone else for that matter won't have to worry about cooking or supplying food for everyone.

Are you allowing other people into the show or just students from the school?
If anyone can attend, ADVERTISE.
Print out fliers and hit a local cruise and place them in all the cars you see.
Or if it's for students, place fliers around the school.

See thats what I'm unsure of. How about free to students and everyone else pays say $3? I can ask for funding. I need to get the cops involved as we can get away with a bit more. I'll keep everyone posted if everyone else can keep throwing idea's out for this.

How big is your school?If it's not very big,I would keep the classes to a bare minumum to cut costs on trophies and such.Those costs add up quick.Get with some local parts stores and trophy shops for sponsors.Some businesses are glad to donate something if you make sure you have some kind of mention of them at your event.Ask everyone you can Some may doante a few bucks,some may donate products (car wax,oil,steering wheel cover,trophy,drinks,snacks,etc.).

Say about 300 people in the highschool. Say 75 cars maybe. I'll hit up the prinl first to get it approved.

Time of the show might also be an issue. Would you do it on a weekday after school, or a weekend. What time would it start? A DJ is always a good idea if you can get some funding to do it. Something I have always done at "unsponsored" events was to sell cans of pop. By a couple of 24 packs, good veriety, and sell them for 50 or 75 cents. 50 cents will get $12 per 24 minus expenses, and 75 cents will get $18 per 24 minus expenses. Depending on the weather I might be interested in attending, but insurance usually doesn't go back on the car until mid April.

You shouldn't have trouble getting the police to monitor all the activity. Since the Columbine shootings, my high school has had an officer assigned to it. Granted he bounced between 4 different high schools but he was almost always there at one point or another during the day. I would assume you have something similar. I'm sure your prinl wouldn't have a problem to get local law enforcement to maintain order in case things get out of hand. Besides, I'm certain the cops would enjoy every moron burning out and speeding away from the school.

Free entry for students and a fee for everyone else sounds like a fine idea.
Figuring how much to charge can get a little involved. I would say...
1. figure out how much everything would cost.
2. Subtract whatever funds you are given from that total.
3. Then guesstimate how many cars you expect (that aren't students) and divide your total from number 2 by the number of cars.

Again, advertise it. The more interest you get, the more cars you will get, the cheaper registration etc.

As far as judging, you could set it up the way Carlisle is. Each car registers in a class and each partint is given a ballot with each class on it and they choose their 2 favorites from that class. Tally them up and determine the winners.
