What do YOU do for a living? Reply #46 – March 06, 2007, 05:46:48 PM Full time student. I finished off my auto body repair program this past fall. Currently working on my welding associates degree. I'm a student worker in the welding lab. Will be attending classes at Lincoln Motorsports Welding School. Will probably be teaching auto body welding classes as of next fall and hoping to get in to one of the automotive based welding jobs in the area. Quote Selected

Thinking on trying to find a machine shop or auto shop that might take me on. Kinda doubt it, but worth a shot.For the long run, engineering seems to be where I'm heading. I'll stick with it instead of trying to become that one mechanic in that one town at that one shop that someone heard makes good money. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to turning wrenches I can turn em just as good as anyone. But a potential 6 figure income with my eventual Masters in Computer Networking from DeVry keeps me motivated. This job is also paying for my CCNA/P, A+, MCSA/E (in as many as I want) and whatever else I want. Quote Selected

As hard as they work me, that 'receiving' title takes on a whole new meaning. That means I unload trucks & stock shelves for 8 hours. Basically make the store look fresh & new for the morning. I've been there for three months and I'm a few weeks overdue for my evaluation, which should come with a raise to put me at a whopping $8.45/hr. It's okay till I get through with school, which seems like that day will never come. In my 5th year (changed major a bit late in the game) and still almost a senior I wish I'd gone to a tech school and been done with it so I don't have to bust my ass for peanuts.Speaking of which, I'm regretting the fact that I'd said I'd come in tonight the other day. Reply #58 – March 07, 2007, 12:30:47 AM I was going to MSU back in 89' (majoring in beer bongs and water bongs) when I came home for Christmas, down at the local bar I ran into a guy I went to HS with, he asked me if I still remembered how to use a plazma cutter from shop class, and if so, he could get me some quick work over the Christmas break (I was very very poor, only could afford old mud or pabst beer at the time), anyway I said hell yes! Went down to this company the following Monday, put in the app, and the next thing you know I am cutting the rear floor pan out of 150 new Aerostars (a run of bad panels) making 10 bucks an hour. Needless to say I never went back to school, went out of town to the Ford test track in Orlando a couple of months later, then came out to Cali in June of 1990 to work in Fords prototype shop here, never went back to Michigan, put my time in here, busted my rear every day, and am now the facility manager making over 100K, free BC/BS PPO health care, 5 weeks paid vac, 401k, etc. who would have thought! Anyway, out here on the west coast we support Fords marketing and advertising adventures, from TV commericials, print ads, and market researches to engineering support. We build, paint, update prototypes for these projects, then man and support each project, it is something different eveyday! I will have put 20 years in here in 2010, I am trying to lay out a plan to retire early (I will be 45) and travel the countryside! I count my blessings daily!! Quote Selected
