Im thinking about swapping out the 5 speed for an auto in my 86TC.  Im sure I can find someone local with an auto that wants a 5 speed.

Will any 83-88 TC be ok for a swap?

If you want to make any sort of power, dont do it.
It's Gumby's fault.

The 87-88 uses the A4LD, which I think is an electronic tranny. You could probably make it work but you'd need the computer and harness from an 87-88.

The 83-86 uses a C3, which is a non-overdrive tranny.

If I'm not mistaken doesn't a C4 bolt up to a 2.3? If so you could have a pretty strong auto tranny behind that engine.

The A4LD isnt an electronic tranny as far as i know, i know the line pressure is controlled by a vacume modulator, and thats it.

The problem is that the 2.3L automatics are notoriously weak.

The OD lock-up is controlled by the ECU on the A4LD's in the 87-88TCs
