It's not a hard job, but you'll need a slide hammer puller to get the bearing out of the rear end housing. Assuming you have an open (non-locking) differential, to replace the bearing you:
  • Jack up the car and remove rear wheels and brake drums. The car should be supported so that the axle is hanging instead of using jack stands under the axle - this will give you more room to work.
  • Remove rear diff cover. Rotate the differential (you will have to put the car in neutral) until you can access the small bolt that holds the large diff pin in place (the bolt will have a 5/16 or 8mm head).
  • Remove the bolt. Hope like hell you don't break it. I broke mine.
  • Slide the diff pin out. Once pin is out take care not to rotate either axle as it might result in the "spider" gears falling out. You might have to rotate the entire diff slightly so that you can push on the back side of the pin enough to get hold of it to pull it out.
  • push the axles in toward the car until you can remove the "C" clips holding the axles in. The C-clips will be inside the differential housing where the pin you pushed out in the previous step was at. Then pull the axles out.
  • Look at the axles and get a total look of disgust on your face when you realize you need axles (the bearings ride directly on the axle surfaces, and when they go bad they wear into the axles).
  • Use the axle shaft as a pry bar to remove the grease seal, then chuck the seal. You will need new ones.
  • Use the slide hammer puller to pull the bearing out of the axle housing.
  • Drive a new bearing into the axle using a bearing tool or a very large socket and a hammer
  • Install new seal. Coat the lip of the seal with some grease so it's lubricated.
  • Insert the (new) axle shaft. Push it in all the way, insert C-clip, then pull axle back out until it stops.
  • Do the same thing for the other side
  • Insert differential pin, then install bolt that holds pin in place.
  • Clean the diff cover and gasket surface on axle housing, seal with automotive grade silicone (DO NOT USE TOO MUCH AND TRY TO KEEP IT OUT OF THE BOLT HOLES).
  • Fill diff with hypoid gear oil until it starts to run out of fill plug
  • Put rest of stuff back together
