0 mile AODE (or maybe aod, doubt it tho)

Ok well, my transmission blew, its s metal.  so my dad is bringing me up a 5.0l 4spd auto that has 0 miles.  ok first of all, i dont belive my dad in it being 0 miles.  if he was ganna go that far why not ****in go with the 5spd swap?  anyway.  what do i need to look for to tell the difference between the aod and aode (btw, which one is better for performance, is it the aode?  i got the "optional" tran for the 5.0l i think.  my bird was a v8 with every single option.  the onlything missing is the turbo coupe switches.  my dad even told me after reading the vin that it had a special more performance orienated auto.  dunno the validity of that either.  i feel like i got the run of the mill trans that goes ont he back of a 5.0l.  but anyway, whats something to look for to make sure its 0 miles.  i mean i know it should be clean but mean green does that shiznit good.  and i dont want a remaned b/c its prolly worse than what im taking out of it.  so what should i keep my eyes and ears on as far as seeing the trans.  plus how should i go about breaking the trans in.  b/c we all know a transmission and engine always adapts to how one drives, and i dont wanna drive like a granny for a month and then drive like the satanbehindthewheel i am and break something (like the rear end or the valve system)

EDIT: hey maybe i will break the rearend, and be forced to get a new one HEh?HEh?

In '87 there was only one transmission, so I'm not sure what you mean by 'optional'.  As far as break in goes, just take it easy on it, I don't think there's anything special you have to do.  Keep up regular fluid and filter changes.

Do you know what happened to your original? What failed in it? Was it friction material or mechanical, like gears?

At the very least flush your radiator real good. Make your fluid changes more frequent. Doing so can have similar benefits as changing your engine oil more frequently than recommended. ;)

You can use an aode but you must intall a newer aode eec then install wiring to the trans.

yeh its deffinatly an AOD.  my source telling me that there were 2 autos for my car was obviously pulling shiznit out of his ass.  anyway the coolant line connectors failed.  im ganna have to take the exhast from the rear of the manifold back off the car to get up in there to replace the fitting.  im ganna end up gutting the cats out since they're already ganna be off the car.  i thought about highflow cats but im on a budget here.  but yeh since the coolant line connector broke, and having to drive 20 miles through the nc rolling hills the tq converter destroyed itself.  i recant the statemtn that my trans was s metal, b/c once i dug into it i can tell most of the rest of the trans is not in great condition but in decent condition.  so im just glad the world isnt over for my trans... sad part is im having to use this transmission which was abused when it broke, ontop of the thing being rebuilt about 10 years ago.  it wont be long till the t5 conversion.
