ill be using the exhaust manifolds.there arent any companies that i know of making headers for this application. im sure i could order a set or customs, but that's big $$$.
might want to check into the aussi boss 290 headers. i `think` thats what a buddy of mine is useing on his 5.4 DOHC. next time i talk to him ill check. (never mind i think they needed to me modded.)

its gonna be tight in there. check out his thread if ya getboared.http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/showpost.php?p=693461&postcount=66

also, why the heck are those "aftermarket" valve covers and coil covers so dang expensive anyway? at least powdercoat is inexpensive and leaves you with options....

alrighty....

i got the motor in, and had a few snags. the navi driver side exhaust manifold will not clear the steering shaft. the oil pan rubs the steering rack(still!), and i got the wrong bolts for the flexplate. i wound up having to pull the trans out, so we could get the motor in. (i had 2 friends come over, and they werent coming over to do nothing, LOL!)

im now on the hunt for a manual steering rack, driver side cobra exhaust manifold, and the correct flexplate bolts. then i get to re-stab the 200lbs trans! yay me!

the carb sticks out of the hood by 2" right now. it will be higher once i have the N2O plate and air cleaner on there. i will look into using a "shaker" style hood scoop, as i feel a 6" cowl hood will look ridiculous on this car.

Great Job!  Takes up more room than the Cadillac 500.  These cars sure had a nice big engine compartment.

Better hope you never break a motor mount, there's nowhere for that block to go! How much room is actually between the head and strut tower?
BTW, slow down....you're starting to make me feel bad for not working on my own car.

i got the trans installed after locating some flexplate bolts. i had a friend come by and give me a hand. it only took about 20min to the 200lbs trans bolted in.

i ran into another snag on the oil pan. i bought a new pan for a 4.6 mustang, and when we were turning the motor over to get the converter nuts on, the motor would get in a bind. turns out one of the crank counterweights was rubbing the ser in the pan. so we had to lift it back up, drop the oil pan, and smooshed the sers down so the crank would clear. ill seems fine now.

im actually going to try to get it to start today, if i can get a fuel pump, and the ignition controller wired.

Hell the 5.4 barely fits in the bay. I think a 460 fits with more clearance ;)

Nice job though :D

well, after many attempts, it wont run. i had  it start briefly, but then died. i hooked my laptop up to it, to see if it would tell anything, and it came with "cam sensor fail, coil 1 input, coil 3", and some other BS. im not sure if i was getting a 12v to the controller. i have the ignition on a 35a lighted toggle switch, and when i crank it over, the light on the switch will "blink". like its getting drained. i found my old starter solenoid, and im gonna see if having that wired in will fix any kind of power drain.

i also forgot to plug the cooler lines, so i had about 5 qts of tranny fluid blown all over my driveway. :shakehead

My memory of this info on these motors is vauge at best, But I belive there is "issues" with moving them from one car to another. A wireing issue that will (is intended to) stop them from running to make them useless or at least a pain in the ass for chop shops to steal them.

If you are aware of what I'm talking about then never mind.

If you have never heard of such a thing then I'm pretty sure where I read it was someplace on Sergio's site http://www.cobra4me.com/
when he was building his Super Cobra he came accrost it...

wtf, I went and found what I was talking about anyway.. (wasent going to bother if you were already aware)

" I wanted to make the engine run before I pull it, but the Passive Anti Theft System is denying me the pleasure, it seems that the mangled driver's door that I already threw in the trash had a module needed for the system to recognize the key, so there's no fuel and probably no spark for the engine to fire...it cranks and turns but won't start, so if I remove the components now and get rid of most of the wiring and unnecessary systems I think it will run ok.
"
THAT's what I'm taking about, and about all I know about it is that it exsist... Have you looked into this?

Sergio get's arround it and I'm sure you will also if you havent already, or even if it exisist on your perticular setup.

Just wanted to mention it.
