diagnosis of a start problem

Ok, i dunno about you guys, but when i go to crank my car when cold, i have to turn the key twice.  that or hold the key in the start position for prolly 3 seconds before it fires.  you know you go out, and the started turns over but the engine take a minute to start up.  the fix as most of you might have found is to bump the key a good bit and then turn it and she fires up quickly.  well i found out this is from leaking injectors. since this is the same (from discussion) on various other cars, im pretty sure its the same accross the board on the fox chassis'.  of course, leaking injectors would cause a rough idle, or possibly stalling out etc.  so if your having a bit of trouble on cold starts this could be the culprit.  thought i'd share. :birdsmily: :cougarsmily:

that or clogged screens inside the injector.  zoom in on the screw laying there with an injector screen on it.
ive cleaned my injectors by energizing the injector to make the ball valve move to the open position using a ac to dc power converter from an old printer i use to have.  Its about 12dc at 800milliamps.  it opens and im able to spray carb cleaner in there and put some air presure on the injector to blow things out the other end.

most of the time, its goo build up along the ball that prevents it from seating.

i think thats covered on the "injector balance test"

did you try that btw,, often it can tell you if you have a fault in one of your injectors,,actually it will tell you.  all you need is a way to watch rpm's,, which is easy to remedy.

ill put it bluntly,, if you guys cars turn over sort of slow,, then you try to restart and it spins kinda faster than before,,
your problem isnt the injectors.

its the battery (quality) or the age of the starter,, or the starter solenoid,, high amperage connections or the ignition switch.

ive been eyeballing this problem over the years and taken notice to sluggish spin on first attempt, then it speeds up on the second attempt.

i dont have a sluggish first spin.  its not like it gradually turns over faster as it get to where it begins to crank up.  i just bump it, then bump it again and it starts, or i could keep the key turned and it takes like 4 seconds to fire.

if you dont mind,, try something for me cause it might veriify a couple things.

on your eec test connector, ground the tan/light green wire.

turn you key on , start like normal.  see if that changes something.
