Info needed on the "light group" option

How hard would it be to install the light group parts from one car to one that didn't have it?Lighted door locks, auto lamp, corner lights on front fenders, sunvisors, auto dim.I'm going to rebuild my Sport which has none of that and use my daily driver for parts which has all of it.Any info will be great.

Hello Vinnie !!!...

It's like a plug and play to add these features, I do this in 2005 on My '85 Bird, with the stuff from a '87 '88 Cougar, Now I'll go to the Junkyard to take some parts, and after the lunch I'll explain to You all do You need, and how to do, it's so simple...

Have a nice Day!!!,

Hello Vinnie !!!,

Okay, I'm here, I was go at the JY to try to found the f*ck!n fuel flow sensor for My carbed car, bot nothing here too, all the car have tripminder have a CFI, TBI or SEFI engine...

DONOR CAR:

Autolamps/auto dimming, for My car I removed all the setup from a '87 or '88 Cougar, Remove the detector located on the mirror, and his harness (3 wires), remove from the pillar if You capable, if not, CUT the 3 wires, at the dector has 3 black wires, but at the pillar is a 3 different color wires, remove the kick panel, and locate these 3 wires and pull out from the pillar, and disconnect the connector where the 3 wires go on, mark on the paper where the wires are on the connector, and remove from them...

Do the same thing for the other side of the connector, and pull out the rest of the harness with the 3 relays (2 or 3 not sure), pull out the dash center little vented cover to remove the sun/day detector, it retained by 3 screws, pull the center dash trim, and pull the clock, behind You see the connector for this daylight detector, remove it!...

disconnect the 6 or 8 contact rectangulat connector near the firewall, remove the dash trim over the switches, remove the complete switches assy, and unplug it, NOW You able to remove this complete harness for the auto light/auto dim system...

RECEIVE CAR:

reinstall the harness as the same place as possible of the donor car, install the daylight detector, connect harness to, install the 2 or 3 relays with his bracket near the center of the dash, reinstall all the lights switches and plug it, NOW locate the connector at the same place of the donor car, but the receive car don't have these 3 wires on it, re-clip the 3 wires as You noted when You removed, do the same for the other side of connector, and pass these 3 wires on the pillar to the up, or the best go from up with a 14 gauge home electric wire, and put down in a door pillar, once at the bottom pick with a pair of pliers this 14 ga, and attach the 3 wires with electric tape on it, then remove the 14ga cable by pulling, when the 3 wires are out of the upper side of the pillar, just reconnect where cutted, color to colors and tape it, or use a shrink tube, install the light detector on the mirror, and connect the 3 wires harness to it!...

Last thing, the 6 or 8 wires rectangular connector, locate at the firewall behind the fuse panel, a same connector with a dummy plug on it, the dummy plug have two wires looping on it, remove from the connector, and connect the one from the "new" harness to it!, that's all...

Note: the daylight detector in the dash will not detect a light of neon tubes, or artificial lights, when I installed this system in fall 2005 in My car, the system not worked, just because in My garage I have a neon tubes, I don't know if it work correctly with a tungsten light bulb...

For the auto dimming if You have, close all the lights or if You're outside, make a test in the dark, place rolling potentiometer to the proper position, set Your lights to the hi beams, and use a flashlight to test, if all is correctly connected, it will work...

Xcuse Me for this some erratic explaination, I'm not very easy in English, but if You have any question, I'm here...

Hope this help...

The connectors for the lighted visors is already up there.  and if you pull the headliner down to change the harness that goes acrros the front if you add in the auto lamp then you will see what i mean.

Sunvisors, ect...

For the sunvisors, just pass a wire in a pillar from the right hole to the left hole at the top of the windshield, run the wire on the door pillar, and connect at the always live power wire under the dash, personally I used the same wire of the radio memory (LG/Y wire), this work well...

For the illuminated locks I have a set here, I not already installed, But in My '85 I already have a 3 pr0ngs connector at the rear of the door, one if for the light on the door panel when You open the door, one is a GND, and maybe one is the right one for that, but I'm not sure, I don't have a stock keyless entry on My car, and illuminated entry system, For that, I'll scan the pages from My EVTM manual for 1985, I'll probably the same thing for ,87 and ,88...

For the corner lights, I'll do the same for You, I'll scan the pages of My 1985 EVTM too...

Hope this help...

vinnie the wires for the visors are in the harness that runs up the pillars and across the front of the headliner.  Just trace its route on your other car all the connectors are on both cars.

And cornering lamps.. in order to have them function like stock look at the thread i started in the electrical forum.. I figured more people would be intrested in it but i think it just blew away to page 3 or so by now.

O.K.,I printed that info as well, and added that to my "build book".I already have everything I need as far as parts go,since my daily driver has the light group.I don't mind suspension, engine, and even interior work, but I hate electrical stuff.I don't know why.I look at this whole swap, and I see 5 days worth of labor (in my distorted vision).Do I need to pull my dash to add all of this? Also, with the door locks,is the harness already in the door,or do i have to swap that also?I want the door locks and interior light to come on when I lift the door handle like my daily driver does now.I'm asking for a lot, but,I want my 'Bird to be all it can when I'm finished.Everything except a sunroof. That doesn't interest me at all.

In order to get the illuminated entry you need to pull the dash out and the back seat out and maybe the front seats and front of the carpet back.. the harness that runs inside the doors and to the trunk is all one big piece.....that is different... between your two cars.

Dear God,this is going to take longer than the bodywork, paint, and engine swap (hangs head in total disbelief.........yet knows the harnesses WILL be swapped).
