I put a piece of wood on the jack and jack the auto up by the pan.  Did the AOD in the old 83 5.0 we had that way.  NO issues.
Got the old one out the same way.

thats how we change trannys around here... period... unless we need a rear main change too.. then the whole motor comes out

Dillon, its easier than you think... it should take an hour to get it out and in.. depending on how fast you work..

ok well since you all know my extint of experience with transmissions and that i dont know a  thing about them this is my issue.

do i un bolt it from the bellhousing or from the block? since im pretty sure that the replacement wont have a bell on it or a converter then what do i do to switch this? what about the flex plates?

might be stupid question but i dont know

You inbolt the converter from the flexplate (through the access hole on the engine plate), remove the starter and then unbolt the bell from the engine.  Move whole lot rearward to allow the converter studs to clear the flex plate and drop down.

This is assuming you have all the other  out of the way (driveshaft, shift linkage, exhaust...)

The bell is integral to the trans.

the flexplate is the thing that bolts to the crank on the motor.. that the starter intermingles with to turn the motor over..

and the torque converter is bolted to the flex plate...

After reading all this I'm still wondering where the "Don't get ripped off" title comes from. I was expecting to read about an eBay deal gone bad or something...

Dude, with your inexperience i don't know if i'd atempt it.
You may get it out, but getting it back in with the car on stands is no picnic and can be dangerous if you don't know what your doing.
Now i'm a liscensed tech and on a hoist with all my air tools/etc it takes me around 40-45 mins to remove it,then around  1- 1 1/2hours to get it back in so not sure where blackjack gets under 2 hours???
Anyways,if you really rely on the car i may just be inclined to pay someone a few hundred dollars to swap it out for ya,you don't want to get it out then not be able to reinstall it.
As they say removals the easy part, lining it up afterwords is kind of a pain in the a**.
