Attempted theft leaves Cougar wounded.

My brother was using my car to goto school while his truck was in the shop getting an inspection.  He took it 2 days...well 1 day..the 2nd day he didn't make it.  Some punk ass kid decided my worthless rims were worth taking.  On the way to school the second day, the driver rear wheel just fell off.  He was so stressed from it he didn't goto school that day.  So now I'm left with a wounded cat and no leads.  What's worse I think, is that the prick behind my brother had the nerve to HIT my wheel and send it down the street and then continue on WITHOUT STOPPING TO SEE IF MY BROTHER WAS OK!!!!!  I wish it was me....I would have ran after that SOB and clocked him one, right in front of his kid.  Getting junior to school on time is more important that seeing if someone is ok after a wheel just fell off the car and they hit it......god the ignorance.  And luckily my brother wasn't on the highway anymore...he was going over 60 just a few minutes before the wheel came off.....that  almost killed my brother for some unknown brand rims that only fit my car....not any honda or nissan like he thought they would.........I'm just without words on how someone could do this in the high school I went to.

Evidence they were tampered with:
  • All the lugs just fell off.  No broken studs.
  • The rest of the lug nuts, according to my brother, were loose.
  • I'm a technician by trade.  Out of the hundreds of wheels I've taken off and put back on, none have fallen off.  And I was the last one to have the wheels off...when I put the junkyard rear in.  I don't fool with wheels, I stay consistant with how I install them...the way I learned.
  • A string of cars have been hit in my hometown, in the high school parking lot.......which has cameras.
  • The car has traveled about 300 miles since the rear was installed, which was the last time the wheels were off of it.
Here are the pics:

I'm majorly bummed out.  This car has been headache after headache.  Once I saw the damaged in person, I almost started to cry....I've put hours into this car and it just keeps breaking...even when I'm 100 miles away from it.

So now it sits....for 6 months....1 year....2 years...who knows...  But it sits until I can repair the damage, and replace an endless list of things that need attentions.  Including the engine....I've decided to move away from the 2.3T's and put in a more reliable...powerful engine.  This along with my girlfriend's TC make me glad we were able to get into some new vehicles.  My GTP and her newly purchased 95 Mustang GT.  It gives us piece of mind knowing our cars won't break down every other day while allowing us to keep those cars for future use.

Ok...rant over....I'm glad my brother is ok...but if I ever find that kid....I'm gonna....................I'll stop myself.....but it will be ugly.

wait, the kid didnt take the rims?  just loosened the lugs?  i wouldnt say he tried to steal them, but kill your brother.  i mean i could steal rims quick with one jack and a x wrench...  it'd take me... 5 min or LESS.  you know the whole "on blocks" bs?  thats what it is, bs, b/c if someone was ganna steal rims, like me ( i wouldnt dare, b/c i wouldnt want it to happen to me) i'd just jack it up, take the rim off, drop it, move to the next.  hell going to sears or getting a snap-on cattalogue and getting an electric impact wrench would take me 3 min flat to get 4 rims.  just loosening them is a prank so to speak... a potentially deadly one. thats whats so ****ed up about it.  ask your bro if he's aquired any enemys or if there are some loser punk as bitches that would do shiznit like that.

btw, they might have choosen your car b/c of envy.

Dude that's terrible.  But I agree with autocat, if they wanted the wheels they would have taken them.

Sounds more like a hateful prank.  One asshole at my high school did this exact thing to one of my friends...because he thought my friend stole his girl. :flame:

I know first hand what you mean.

That sucks so bad. If you find who did it, hell, I'll come up and help you beat the hell out of them. If it was a prank it was a prank, but you don't take a chance on killing someone.

I'm willing to bet that they spotted the car, saw how nice it was and thought it would be funny to see it leave the school parking lot and the wheel come off at the same time. Probably don't know your brother at all.

The only advice I can give is to get locking lug nuts. Unless they have the key, there won't be any way to loosen the wheels. But put the car away for a while and just slowly rebuild it. That's what I'm trying to do with mine and it seems to be working so far.

I had a similar thing happen to me.....I WAS doing 60 when it came loose.  Got over to the side of the road and as I tapped the brakes to come to a stop, the drum pen 15ed and locked the rear.  The car came to a rest with the drum sitting on the inside of the wheel.  Similar situation....someone started to take the wheels...but got interrupted and left.

Sucks to hear man.  At least no one was hurt though.

Holy shiznit dude, that blows.  Your cougar has always been one of my favorite cars on this site.  What a freaking asshole.  Seriously, I hope Karma catches up with this kid and he'shiznit by a train.  And I'd think that it could be a prank too if all 4 corners were loose, and the wheels were still there, that spells sabotage.  Good luck with this, and if you ever find that guy get him good.

When I was in high school I was tempted to do this to some asshole that felt the need to remove a valvestem valve from a wheel on my Camaro during class. I was soo pissed, never did it though. I don't like to be ****ed with so I try not to mess with people to much. Not sure why he wanted to pick on my car that day, I didn't even know the guy.

I'm all for revenge, but I won't touch another person's car without them doing something to mine first.
