TRX project

Well, I found some drag radials for my TRX wheel project. M&H sells a 325-45-17 Drag Radial that fits a 8 inch wide wheel. With my 17x8 wheels with 5 in. backspacing, all I have to do is get the Mustang 4 lug axles and my 325 TRX combo will fit perfect in the Turbo Coupe's wheelwells.--X

So you had the center cut out and put in new rims? If so how much did that cost. Becasue I have some virgin TRX rims.

I rough cut the TRX with my chop saw and took the centers to a machine shop. Cost me $ 20.00 a piece to get the final diameter.

I noticed last year that Tire Rack still sold 220-55-390 Michelin TRX tires and I believe they were $ 280.00 ea or something like that. Then 2 weeks ago I check on them again and they are no longer listed. Does Michelin even make the tires anymore? People are starting to restore 79-84 Mustangs and the ones with TRX wheels are going to have a tough time getting tires. At 15.3 inches in diameter, I thought about machining a TRX down to 15.0 inches and try a 15 tire. But when I looked at the thickness, I don't think I could take off .150 inch and still be safe, even if the wheels are factory forged. :birdsmily:

There still avalable but mostly in Europe. They come from the Michilen plant in France was what heard. Last time I tried to order them it was like a 4 week wait before shipping them.

Yeah, I think BMW started the whole metric wheel thing and someone at Ford in 1979 thought it was a great idea to use European spec tires. Sorry, Ford, bad idea. But they did make some awesome looking TRX Cougar and T-Bird wheels but the Mustang version does not look as good. Man, I love the looks of the factory clearcoated TRX ThunderCat versions.

Sweet. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the wheels as you were working on them would you?

My '86 had the TRX wheels. The guy who sold me the car had them still laying around so I grabbed them when I got the car. I love the look of the wheel but unless I did something like this they probably won't ever get back on the car.

No, I don't have any pics of the early stages because I didn't take any. But I will try to get some of all the parts before final assembly.
