2-4 carb adapter

Is this worth it? I have a 4 barrel intake ready to go on the car, and the carb I had wouldn't have worked. So is a 2-4 adapeter worth it or to just save and wait for a 4 barrel? In my case, it would my the 2 barrel CFI on a allumnium 4 barrel intake. Any oppion is needed. Thanks

What, do you have a squarebore intake and a spreadbore carb? What kind of intake is it? Does the CFI use a standard 2-bbl carb mounting ? I would just wait for the carb that will work. You would probably see a gain with the CFI but I doubt it would be much. I would save your money if you're going carbed soon anyways

It's a 1983 Ford squarebore intake. I belive that it's a standurd 2 barrel carb, but I'm not sure. I *may* have a freind withan adapter, so I'll take what I can get.

Dont waste your time. A 4 barrel would do nothing for a CFI car. The carburator isnt the restriction, the exhaust and heads are.

Heads are on the way, ( 85 351 heads) and exhaust alittle while longer. I'm just trying to dodge the $200-400 bullet when it comes to the carb. I may even just go 2 barrel carb and port the heads.

if i remember correctly, the 85 351 heads are the same as the 85 302 heads, just drilled for a 1/2" head bolt.

So, The intake/adapter is pretty much worthless without E7 or better heads? If it's no gain, but no loss, I'll do it ot make the carb swap shorter in the future. I'd already have the intake on, and a;; i'd have to do is take off the adapter and put on the carb.

Regardless of what we say, youll still do what you want. Do what you want to do.

Youre better off saving the money, and going to the junkyard to find yourself a factory 4bbl carb. Around here, you can find yourself a carb for 25 bucks.

Save your money, do it right, and be happy. Ive done the budget building, and i did half of the work twice.

gosh, im not sure id really swap in that year W heads. like shawn said, they are pretty much identical, as well as in valve size they are what you already have (i think). if you can, do some research but i have a lot of stuff on this in my DIY link.

you need to find your casting number and let us know. this will let you also know how you stand as far as heads. Its possible you may have late 70's heads with the higher cc combution chamber.

since you have an 84, im guessing (as sad as it may seem) that e5 or e6 heads would be an upgrade due to lower CC's which would raise the compression.

the E7 would upgrade compression cause they lower CC's. the valves are the same size as what you have now. ( i would think)

the F1 would be a gain in lower cc's as well as larger valves.

the F7 would be the bada bing for both lower cc's and larger valves.

**the F1 and F7 heads differ on exhaust size. the F1 has the largest but the F7 has a lower cc. F7 could be fitted with the desired 1.54 stock cobra size. Im not sure why ford went with a smaller exhaust valve for the 97-2000 explorer or mountainer.

pre77 351 heads meet or exceed the hardware comparrisons to the gt or the P heads with respect to cc's and valve size. The flow numbers are the difference i suppose. A few mustang guys i know in morganton NC are raping the jy's for these heads and are very happy with the bang vs the buck.
these guys got real tired of the costs involved with mass air this and SD that, A9L this and suddenly they just start tossing e7's for the early w heads and life is good. i guess there must be something to it.
i hope someone else chimes in on this , im doing a lot of research CC's vs valve size and application.

Where would I find the casting #'s on the heads. Al I can imput for now is that the engine is from an 83 car. so the heads are atleast E3. I find it hard to belive that E5-6 heads on a motor 3 years older ya know. I'll look at the Post ya made and try to figure it out.

look anywhere on the head and with the valve cover off. Most common place to find the casting number is on the bottom of the head along the that is only visible if your sitting in the lifter valley,, so pulling the heads isnt an option yet nor will you fit in there,,lol.

there will be numbers possibly near cyl 2 or 3 spark plug hole. that may be a date code but does not give me the decade,,no matter though, it should do.

you can take this info and cypher it , if you have problems, let us know.

what happened to your boring out that cfi?

John has it. I Just bought the adapeter just in case I feel adventurious. I'll get the head info soon. I'm just heading out to put my new shocks on it.
