We got a Cat!!!!! January 13, 2007, 04:43:34 PM It's a really nice one too.... low mileage, sleek looking, all black, with just a bit of white accent on it. Of course Dakota wants it to be his..... but I told him it belongs to the family. LOLHer name is Guenhwyvar. :D I'm calling her Guen for short. I figure she's about 12 weeks old. Her mama is a stray that stays in our barn. Roger found Guen this morning on our porch and thought we might be able to find her a home. Then he talked to my sister and she said we could keep her (trial period) if we got her shots, declawed and spayed....all stuff we'd do anyway. And as long as she gets litter trained, we'll be ok. The latter she will not be keeping much longer. BTW: Storm is a sweetheart most of the time. However she can live up to her name and ruin your day if you don't treat her with respect. :D Quote Selected

We got a Cat!!!!! Reply #6 – January 14, 2007, 01:32:02 PM Dakota loves the Forgotten Realms books, and Guenhwyvar is the black panther of the main character in the books. Mods planned are removal of sharp areas on the wipers, adjusting the distributer to minimize/decrease output , and proper maintenance for distemper, rabies and other such engine/ body problems. We got a Cat!!!!! Reply #8 – January 16, 2007, 03:38:52 PM Heh, that's cool. I named the one that turned up on my doorstep Drizzt. His mom was Guenhwyvar, but she left him alone after only being in this world for a week.Him and da mama when he was only a week old or so... Quote Selected
We got a Cat!!!!! Reply #9 – January 18, 2007, 02:20:21 PM That's cool John! Drizzt is Dakota's favorite character. Oh, and next Cat Jam, you have to bring your Magic deck... He wants to bring his so you guys can have a match. Quote Selected
We got a Cat!!!!! Reply #10 – January 18, 2007, 02:21:33 PM Oh and we are reconsidering the declawing.... she won't be going outside at all...but, we are thinking of trying alternatives for scratching. We've heard declawing is very painful and can cause a lot of problems after it's done. Quote Selected

We've heard declawing is very painful and can cause a lot of problems after it's done. That's good, I dont think it's a very humane thing to do to them. Declawing is defintely painful (it'll hurt you to watch them hobble around the house for a week or so afterward) and they don't stop thinking they have claws. Mine still goes through the scratching motions on things so there's a "mental" angle too. My advice, get a scratching post and take the time and effort to train them to use it. A 4 foot s of 4x4 with some carpet stapled to it would do the trick... Put aluminum foil over any surface they use that you don't approve of, like the corners of your furniture. Oh, and based on current experience - if they're kittens don't encourage them to play/attack your hand. Those little claws get sharp really quick. Having said that I've had two cats that were declawed (not by me) and they had no problems that I can think of. One has passed away at the age of 10 and one of them has just reached the ripe old age of 12 and she's ok except for that cute kitten we just got aggravating her. Quote Selected
We got a Cat!!!!! Reply #12 – January 19, 2007, 07:43:21 PM Well, I found out if we want to keep her we have to declaw her (landlord said that is a requirement.) I am going to make sure we discuss it thoroughly with the vet, and make sure she gets the best care possible from them and us. Quote Selected
