Garret T3 January 03, 2007, 10:40:04 AM I just put a T3 on my '87 Turbo Coupe... It spools up to 6psi and then drops off to 0psi, almost like the computer is shutting it down... Do I need a computer from an '83-'86 or is there another issue? Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #1 – January 03, 2007, 11:42:58 AM Sounds like another issue. Does the car stutter when the boost falls off and/or make any weird noises? Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #2 – January 03, 2007, 11:47:48 AM The car continues to pull all the way through the gear without stuttering or regaining boost, however whenever I lift (shift) it's like the turbo resets because then it spools up again. If I accelerate slower I can get it to 8 or 9psi. Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #3 – January 03, 2007, 12:05:45 PM Weird. Sounds like there could be something wrong with your wastegate actuator. Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #4 – January 03, 2007, 12:09:44 PM I did rotate the compressor housing to use my top mount intercooler, but I kept the wastegate in the same place within an inch or less. Quote Selected

Garret T3 Reply #6 – January 03, 2007, 12:13:01 PM When the turbo was off, I noticed it was slightly difficult to pull the shaft out of the wastegate manually. Should this be very easy? Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #7 – January 03, 2007, 12:15:44 PM No, it should be difficult to pull out. There might be a leak in the diaphragm in your actuator though. Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #8 – January 03, 2007, 12:45:34 PM here is the actuator that I'm running. it fits perfectly and alows you to adjust it to whatever position you might need. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-Turbo-Turbocharger-Wastegate-Actuator-Bracket_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ007QQitemZ170065069423QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #9 – January 05, 2007, 10:34:37 AM I do have a pretty good exhaust leak at the downpipe/turbo elbow... could this effect it at all, i.e. a lack of back pressure? Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #10 – January 05, 2007, 11:27:58 AM No, that won't change anything. I'd check out the wastegate (make sure it's closed all the way). Quote Selected

Garret T3 Reply #12 – January 06, 2007, 01:50:48 PM Just ordered a spankin' new Turbonetics Wastegate... I'll let you guys know the result. Quote Selected
Garret T3 Reply #13 – January 06, 2007, 07:03:32 PM A lack of back pressure would help the turbo before it hurt it. Quote Selected
