Dillon.. put some silicon on the pan and put the gasket on the pan first.. so you know your holes are all lined up..put a couple bolts through and stick it up on there..

weatherstrip adhesive works well for all gaskets, just don't overuse it.

didja clean all your gasket edges beforehand?

and the not starting thing could be your NSS (neutral safty switch)

The NSS is there to make sure you don't start it in gear and drive forward or backward unexpectedly, as for where I don't know!

I think it's on the left side of the tranny. Check the connecter, mine was dirty and greasy. Also make sure you lined the linkages up right. You may not be in park or netrual. This would cause the car not to turn over either. Go through th erang of gears and try to just turn the car over. If it turns and it's susposed to be in, say, drive then your linkages are off. Just adjust them and drive away.

on my 88 cougar with aod, the nss is on the driver's side of the tranny, up along the side. it's not very easy to get to. i used a ratchet with a swivel and an extension with my left arm over the passenger side and my right arm through the small area where i disconnected the linkage. no worries as far as it spilling tranny fluid on you're while removing it.
check to see if the reverse lights come on with just the power on and tranny in reverse. if they don't come on, then it IS your nss. also, be careful not to burn up the wire under the dash if it is your nss by repeatedly trying to crank it. i hope this helps some.

Going to look at starter wires and try the reverse lights. see what happens. How would i fix the NSS problem? just get it in the right gears?

yeah, it can be a bitch, but you just need to get it in the correct gears... hell.. run through em when tryin to start it inside the car..put it in a gear and try it.. and go through all the gears and do that.

First see if you're getting 12V at START on the little lb/r wire at the starter solenoid on the inner fender.  If so...look at your starter.

If not...climb under the car and unplug the NSS plug and loop lb/r wire and see if it starts..... that will tell you if there is an issue with the NSS.
