3.8l questions

I was wondering if a underdrive pulley from a 94-98 3.8l v6 work and fit a 84 cougar with a 3.8l CFI injection system? Besides the stock size injector for this motor  will any other size work and like it run?

i tried larger injectors (E0SE) on the 3.8,, too much fuel for the engine to handle,,not saying you wont have a different result.

if you work out the Bottom half of the cfi, you could complement some increased air flow (which is the problem). You may gain some horsepower but you still have to get that CFI opened up and port match it to the throttle plates.

pully setup? id dono

I can't say for certain...but just by looking at the 94+ pulleys, it doesn't look like they'll work.
Now, if you really want underdrive pulleys, you can use the entire accessory bracket setup off of a 94+ Mustang 3.8L. Just be prepared to fabricate A/C and P/S hoses.

Larger injectors won't work in theory or in practice, as jcassity confirmed.

yes to quesiton 1

there are things you can do if you search the board,,ive done a lot of work on this motor and know it inside and out.  as far as gains,, your skimming from the bottom of the barrel.

I have a great view of the west here in west virginia.  Ill be on the look out during jan and feb for the mushroom cloud,,,,:grinno:

Well, if you're going to add turbos...an aftermarket ECM is in order.

I hate to poop in your Cheerios, but there is a reason nobody has built up a CFI 3.8L. The stock ECM doesn't have any aftermarket support, so you can't adjust for larger injectors, timing, A/F ratio, etc. Thus, the need for the standalone ECM. You can port the heads, port the intake, slap on a nice exhaust, turn up the boost...and blow your headgaskets to kingdom-come.

It is much easier, both in money and time-wise to either build up a 5.0/5.8...or if you have a hard-on for the 3.8 - Use a late model Mustang version.

so where do yu think the stock ecm is located at? how much for a upgraded ecm cost. i know it would be easeir to make a v8 but i plan on beating v8 after fixing up my v6. on a track it runs 12-13 because of the rebuild kit and racing camshaft and stage 2 flywheel.

ok,,, where in the hell did you find that cam?

you need to learn your car from inside out and all wiring if you have fallen in love with it that much.  Believe me,, im big on the lighter weight V6 engine.  User name "spazpuppies" here runs a supercharge v6 in his and is getting ready to install the intended ecm and wiring harness.  THats gotta be a quick sucker.

DO this........look into the 4.2L crank/rods/pistons and install that into your v6.  They are bolt on parts so it make you a cheap stroker kit.

i need that camshaft partnumber or source.  You need to share that info ********NOW************* or a lot of v6 guys will hunt you down:grinno:

Smells like bullshiznit to me.

Ive spent years researching the 3.8L, in every form, and a rebuild kit, a cam and a "stage 2" flywheel will NOT make it run any faster than a 15 second time.

Quit the BS, you come here asking a stupid question, then saying your car runs 12-13's? If your car ran that fast, you wouldnt need our help.

Have fun trying to turbo a CFI car.
It's Gumby's fault.
