Question about 7.5 LSD

Summit racing has a ford racing Traction-lok rear diff for the 7.5". Is that what i should go with? That's not a locker correct and will actually allow me to turn corners?

Before anyone says "Go with an 8.8".. I don't want it. This car will never see slicks or any sticky tires what so ever.

Go pull the T-Lok out of a ranger at the bone yard.  And rebuild it.  Much cheaper than that route.

No, it's not a true locker like the name might imply. Traction-lock differentials came on many Ford production vehicles and there is no way that Ford would let a street driven vehicle roll off an assembly line with an automatic locking diff. If you don't need the strength of the 8.8 but would like better traction then get a T/L. As stated above you can get one at a s yard cheaper.

So long as the ring and pinion and diff is out of an 7.5, it'll fit. Check the ring and pinion for wear on the teeth.
What Paul has is a pretty good unit, I'm going to put one of those into my Durango this spring. The benefits of a locker (with no noise) with the cornering ability of an open diff. I may even change out the Trac-loc unit in my IRS for that power trax unit :)

86elan,
Ford has put lockers in their full size trucks. I even had a 69' 1ton ford van that a locker. I've driven quiet a few 3/4 and 1ton trucks as well that had lockers from the factory. In tight turns you would feel the inner tires chirping and you could hear the engaging/disengaging clicks as well as feel them. For the last 4 years I've gone to Ford's Innovative Drive where you get to test drive all the new Fords coming out the next year. It's a blast.

No, the FRPP Traction-Lok unit is not a locker, it is a LSD. You can use that or search the boneyards for used unit. Or even eBay. Most people sell them for dirt cheap and if they aren't damaged you can just rebuild it with the FRPP Rebuild Kit.
