10" XR7 drum 5 lug swap?

Anyone figure out a drum yet, besides redrilling?  I've got an 88 XR7 8.8 10" drum rear sitting around, and I'm wondering what to do with it.  I'd like to shorten it to 80's Mustang width, and I believe all that's needed is to reconfigure the drum.  Maybe the backing plate?  If I can atleast get to the correct width, I can then worry about 5 lugs via redrilling and moser axles.  But I'm hoping for an easier solution, maybe hit two birds with one stone.  Any ideas?  One thought comes to mind, as I have a 66 bro. 9" rear w/10" drums, but they're the 5x5 1/2" pattern.

5lug rear swap info is very scarce and hard to come by.
I believe the areostar drum maybe 10" but not sure.
When i finally do my 5lug swap i'm going to see if eric will do a sticky for the TC guys as i think i can do it fairly inexpensivley.
Your swap should be pretty easy though, look under coolcats tech.

yeah, I read Eric's site, and he asked for anybody's info for the 10" drums, as that's the only one not figured out yet, which is why I asked here.  Aerostar might be a possibility.  I may look at the front drums on my Meteor, also, but the center hub diameter may be too big.

On Eric's site, he was asking for any info out there for the 10"  8.8's drums.  Which I thought I'd ask here, and try to collectively butt heads for an answer, since it's winter time.  As I pulled the drum off, the axle  surface is what stops it from going inboard any further.  So the axle shaft needs to go inboard as well.  However the bearing surface looks awfully long.  So with a fox mustang axle shaft, is this bearing shorter, allowing the axle to be 3/4" shorter?  If that's the case, the backing plate and drum should be all that's needed to be figured out, correct?  I've never looked at a fox stang axle up close, so I'm curious.

Um...we've just been through this...one thread down:

The only thing we don't have is someone that has actually done it. But the information is there. It should be entirely possible.
It's not on the site yet because of lack of feedback. Soon as we get some (one way or the other) I'll post the new info on the site.

huh, my forum search didn't pick that up.  Thanks Eric.
I'm still looking to narrow the rear to fox mustang width, not sn95 width., so I guess my question still remains.  What part is the cause of the 3/4" difference?

I haven't done this swap but I've looked into more than a few times. I do believe that the rangers came out with 10" drums and it is a 5 lug setup. Also from what I've read you can use the axels out of the ranger you just need both of them from the driver side as the passenger one is shorter. Also from what I remeber the t-bird/cogar axels are longer than the stang axels. Hope this helps out for what it worth
