Napa confused me...

I went to get a new igniton rotor today. Took it off and went to get a new one from napa. Go throught all the questions and tell them that I have a 5.0. They bring me out a rotor for a 5.0. But it doesn't look like mine, at all. It turns out my car takes a V6 rotor on it. Why? It has a V8 TFI in it. It's a TFI distrubiter but why the hell does it have a V6 rotor in it? I know the engine came from an LTD but even on the engine list at napa, it says it's for a V6. Did I mess out on a detail here? Or am I loosing my F'in mind

You can't have a V6 cap because it wouldn't have enough terminals on the top.

I didn't know there was a difference between 6 & 8 rotors, if there even is, but...You can't trust what a parts stores computer says all the time either. I 've had similar situations involving U-joints, sparkplugs, & even hoses just to name a few. Best thing is take the old one with you and try to find the guy behind the counter who doesn't look 12 years old.

The rotor in my V6 Bird says 6 & 8 on it also. Same rotor.
It's Gumby's fault.

I know at the parts store I work at if I look up application by the part number it gives me a very generic desciption of what it is for. Even the illistrated book with pictures give you very py application list.

You have a 5.0 from an LTD? the only fox body LTD with a 5.0 was the LX, and those were HO's.

Now thats something I didn't know. AS I was just beginning to learn cars at the point in which the motor was put in it, I'm going by which I was told. 1983 LTD with the 5.0. If it's an HO we'll know when I pull the CFI off and take the screens out over x-mas brake.
And I know LTD=Vic. We have the 90' LTD C.V. remember.

but explain this..............
V6=Small cap so the circle has a shorter radius
v8=Large cap so the circle has a longer radius

see v6 rotor sitting off to the side

Do you have a pic of the dizzy with the cap off yet?

What they gave me and thats fits is like this, only it's grey. Now for the sake of asking, it it possable to run a V6 dizzy with a V8 cap on it? I don't know what the hell to think anymore, so I'll probaly just find another V8 TFI and swap that into the car.

the V8 has a plastic spacer between the cap and the dizzy.  The spacer attaches to the dizzy by two screws.  The dizzy  cap clips onto the spacer.  The cap is less than an inch tall , minus the standoffs.

the v6 cap attaches directly to the metal housing of the dizzy by two screws.  The v6 cap is about 3'' tall as well.

as for the mechanical parts of the dizzy such as the shaft / housing / gear (minus all the electroinics and cap differences)
,,,,, i believe the oil pump shaft is a smaller in thickness than the v8.  That would mean that the center part of the dizzy is not the correct one.

id have to look though.

See how easy i can count the blades that pass through my pick up module (hull effect)

as for your rotor button,,,,, chevy

anyone out there have an opinion???????????????

stop loosing that camera,,,lol
