347 stroker on the cheap? December 20, 2006, 02:47:24 PM I'm just starting to hatch longterm plans for this. I plan to get myself a junkyard roller block to start with but a full stroker kit is a little out of my price range (saving money isn't my strong point). I'm looking at the possibility of using this crank:http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SES%2D5%2D52%2D05%2D001&N=700+4294908331+4294840126+4294889096+4294871923+4294871909+4294785228+115&autoview=skuand these rods:http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SCA%2D25400927&N=700+4294908331+4294840126+4294889096+4294867688+4294786562+115&autoview=skualong with the stock pistons freshened up a bit. I've heard about some of the issues 347s are known for but I've read they're not as common as with the older kits. The engine isn't going to see heavy abuse so it doesn't need to be invincible. Any comments on this combo? Quote Selected

347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #2 – December 20, 2006, 04:15:24 PM Valid point. I'm not even sure I can use the stock type pistons in a stroker anyway. Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #3 – December 20, 2006, 04:45:57 PM As far as I know, you cant. Your best bet is to work with heads, cam, intake, etc, because with your current setup, thats your bottle neck, and on a 347, its going to hurt performance even more so.My advice is to just save up so money to be able to do things the first go-around. Itll take more time, but the results are well worth it. Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #4 – December 20, 2006, 05:08:28 PM Well one of the reasons I'm considering a stroker is my worrying about my reground stock crank holding up to big numbers. I'm worried about breaking it if I go too far. And if I plan to change the crank, a stroker seemed like a good idea. Incidently I wasn't even considering keeping E7 heads and a HO cam on this engine. I'd come up with something better. Quote Selected

347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #6 – December 20, 2006, 09:08:02 PM If you use those stock pistons on a stroker crank they will stick out of the top of the block 1/4 of freakin inch. Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #7 – December 20, 2006, 10:49:06 PM Actually if there's a way to get a 351 in there with a Stealth manifold on it, without modifying the hood I'd be all for that. Is there a way to lower it a few inches? Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #8 – December 21, 2006, 12:15:57 PM You can get a drop base air cleaner, otherwise there isn't much you can do. I think it's tough to fit a 351 under a stock hood. Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #9 – December 21, 2006, 12:25:23 PM Thinner air cleaner, no carb spacer, solid mounts, k-member with 1-inch motor mount drop... there are a few options. Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #10 – December 21, 2006, 01:25:22 PM A 1" drop with the k-member may be all I need. I can gain another 1/4 by losing the spacer, and I may have the other 1/4 I need already. I'd rather not combine the k-member with the solid mounts if I can help it, seems like it might mess up the header alignment. Where would I get the k-member? Is there a junkyard source? 347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #11 – December 21, 2006, 02:24:09 PM K-member will be aftermarket. AJE Racing makes them, I'm sure others do as well. Quote Selected
347 stroker on the cheap? Reply #12 – December 21, 2006, 04:27:57 PM Hmm. Those k-members aren't cheap. And my research suggests those solid mounts fail frequently and cause alot of excess vibration. Quote Selected
