Is thier any trick to taking a tranny out of an 87 cougar 5.0?

You have to hold your mouth just right...  Other than that, its like removing any other RWD tranny.

When I did my flexplate, we dropped the trans crosmember and took it out that way. Wasn't that hard to do but fighting with it was amusing. Get it up on stands/a lift, make sure EVERYTHING is unhooked( linkages, N safty switch...) then support it and unbolt it. After that you pray you did it right and lower the jack with you trans sitting on it. Have fun. I sure did

Pretty easy job...just take your time and pay attention to what you're doing.  Figure on having a very long extension for the two bellhousing bolts nearest to the back of the intake...usually easiest to get to them from above the trans.  Pretty cut and dry.

yeah,, its pertty cut and dry,,(other than dont forget to remove the starter :grinno: )

one trick that i find entertaining is after the tranny is in,, someone was smart enough to buy and install a new front seal for the tranny for about 3 bux.
