Heater core tube came out

I guess it the season for this.My heater core hose came out along with the brass tube that goes into the heater core. The temp. hear (Motown)today was 27.Is their any super glue or epoxy that might put off the inevitable?I am not driving the car daily. But its just to cold to work outside. But if theirs no other way I can take it to my job and work inside.

The same thing just happened to me. I had the AC removed from my car but ran the heater hoses through those. They are the teh fittings coming through the firewall. I was told that I will have to replace the Heater core to get it to work again. It seems that is what you will need to do

Nope, you need to replace it. It's really not that bad if you follow the write up on Eric's cool cats site. I just did it a couple weeks ago and it was really no big deal. If you have an auto the hardest part of the job will be to remove the shifter... I'm lucky, I did it on a 5 speed.

Also, if you have an 88 you may have 2 studs that go through the firewall that you'll have to take the nuts off of... Just a heads up. I posted some pics in a thread a couple weeks ago... http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=11263&highlight=heater+core

ill never forget when crystal did hers,, she saved a boat load of time by cutting three sides of a square in the heater box then pulled and reinstalled the core by flipping up the plastic she had cut.  she then folded the plastic back and used duct tape to secure it back and seal it.  this is prob the method i will use when i decide to take it on.

btw,, anyone with a 90's model ford bronco?,,just did my wifes core and leme tell you folks something.  That was so easy i could have done it in a suit and tie.

No heat but no more heater hose leaks. Then again, I haven't ran it that much to know if it has heat. John told me it would either have heat or not.

I may look into doing a the Crystal on the heater box.I have a parts car I can try it on and maybe use the core from that. And if I am not comfortable with that I guess it dashboard time. With the tips I saw from the post Fila had and Eric Cool Cats, that should get it done.Thank for the input.:grinno:

Don't cut up your heater box, don't run it through the evaporator... Just fix it.  I've got it down to an hours time..  I bet I could even do it faster if I needed too.  Honestly you wont even half to mess with a floor shifter.  that part of the dash doesn't even need to move.  Just lean it backwards and pull the box down.  You better have a young back for this though.  You will be contorted in all sorts of ways.

You make it sound easy.I am headed for bed and will sleep on it:sleep: .I feel I am at least a 6 on a 1-10 scale when it comes to working on my Blue 88 T-Bird.I have pulled motors.Swaped out trans. If I pulled this off I,ll be a 7. About how long should it take?Oh The heater core is on my 87 Bird. The floor shifter is in the 88 with the bad trans.

Its very time consuming... to a point.. You will find yourself cleaning and vacuuming and just gazing at stuff behind the dash.  So your first time it will take longer.

If you've never done it before, count on a few hours of work.
I consider myself to be somewhat mechanically inclined, and I knocked it out in about four or five hours. However, I took my time and double-checked everything. It wasn't a bad job at all...

yes,, just slip your hoses over your threaded fittings that are on the firewall and your done.  I put a 1/4 turn cut off valve in line with the feeder hose and cut it off in the summer.

Let me offer that the only core to get is the Ford one. It kind of mixed luck with the non Ford ones. Ford's PN  #E9LY-18476-A

Here's a post elsewhere with a picture of a Ford core and a non-Ford core.
