1G to 3G How ? December 01, 2006, 10:52:18 PM Before me I have an 83 cougar with a 1G alternator, and this shiny new 3G. I want to unite the two but alas I cannot find any good diagrams on the intarweb that show me how. I know a few of you have done this *cough Jeremy cough* and hopefully its still fresh in your minds. 1G to 3G How ? Reply #3 – December 02, 2006, 11:34:42 AM From what I remember you need to do very little. The 83 external regulator is labeled at the plug in. Wire the wires for the same letter to the same letter on the regulator on the back of the new 3G alt. Then you need to run a large 4ga cable with a fuse of some sort to the satarter relay/selinoid. Also run the white wire from the 3g regulator to the single wire plug next to the regulator. double check all conections and you are done. I did forget to mention that you will need a 3g regualtor plug. I bought mine at the part store when I bought the alt. No need to order from summit. Ask the parts store for the alt from a 94 stang 5.0 that should be the one. If not try 95-99 stang that is if you have the alt with the mounts that are stright across from each other2.3-5.0. The ones that have the mounts that are 90* from each other is the same as what comes on a taurus/tempo. Double check the wiring against what you find others places as it has been over a year since I did the swap in my 84 T/c Quote Selected

1G to 3G How ? Reply #5 – December 03, 2006, 11:47:06 AM I took the easy way out and ordered PA-Performance's 3G upgrade kit. It's $26.95, but you don't have to cut any wires. I can't remember the specifics...but you end up with one wire capped off. If you look at the wiring diagram...it is cryptically straightforward.Sorry I'm not more help. I can run out and take pictures and correlate them to the wiring diagram if you want/need. Quote Selected

It's on a plug, where the factory alt plugged into IIRC? I'm confusing my self just typing this so if you are lost, please say so Quote Selected
