dte fuel gauge

while going to the wreckers yesterday  on the highway my [dte]fuel gauge went from 208 litres to empty to 212 litres to empty why would  it rise on the highway.    ps this car has the digital dash cluster  twister
the movie twister i lived it big cabin oklahoma 1973 man that was some scary shait!!!!

Because it's not measuring your litres, it's measuring the kilometers until empty. Since you get better fuel economy on the highway you'll go further until empty, so the numbers go up. Back when I had my '87 Sport with the disco dash I'd leave Halifax after filling up and it would say 500 km to empty. I'd drive to Liverpool (150 km) and it would say 600 km to empty. Add the 150 km I just drove to the additional 100 km until empty the dash was indicating it was almost like the car was making its own fuel :hick: Of course what caused it was the fact that I'd been getting about 15MPG from city driving, so when it said 500 km it was based on that. Once I set the cruise at 75MPH the fuel economy would go up to about 28 MPG, so once the fuel computer started using that as a figure it would drive the DTE numbers  up.
