V6 & V8 trans code same November 16, 2006, 10:59:30 PM The vehicle certification label on both my T-Birds shows T for the trans type. One is a V6 the other is a V8.Since the code is the same can I use the V6 trans on the V8? I have a V6 trans that I can use on my V8 because the overdrive has gone out. Quote Selected

V6 & V8 trans code same Reply #2 – November 17, 2006, 12:36:00 AM They are basically the same. The V8 AOD had the "B" over drive servo vs. the "C" in the V6 AOD (the "B" is better but not as good as the Super Coupe AOD's "A" servo). Quote Selected

V6 & V8 trans code same Reply #4 – November 17, 2006, 11:27:11 PM The code id's the type of transmission in the car, as already pointed out it does not mean they are the same. While they should interchange in your application, it's possible in some vehicles they would not.. Quote Selected

The AODs received many improvements after '84. They actually had durability problems before '88 and the best ones are those I already mentioned... My '90 SC AOD has lived behind a Trick Flow headed 5.0 for seven years(Nov '99) now and is still alive and well... Been thinking it would die any minute the last couple of years or so. I put the street tires on the back for the first time in over a year and she'll still bark 'em on the 1-2 shift, so she ain't ready to give up yet... Only mods are a Trans-Go Shift kit and hardened input shaft, never been opened up from factory assembly all clutches and seals original...Also since I've had the tranny, it's had nothing but type "F" fluid...
