It's time for Northern Drivers to think about their tires

This morning there was an accident, caused by black ice, on the road that I usually take to work. I would have been on the road at that time other than I took the Ranger in for an oil change and took a different route to work.
 
Time to get the studded winter tires on.

Had my snow tires on for three weeks now.  Even had to use the chains on one hill.

That good advice.  Snow tires save lives.

Actually I'm about 9 hours north of their right now, at my companies Thompson yard. 

Two weeks ago we had about a foot of snow fall overnight.  Of course this got packed down on the roads.  Then it went above freezing during the days, melting some snow on the roads.  Then at night the melted snow freezes into a smooth sheet of ice on the roads, making hills, without using tire chains / studs, very scary.

The only worse thing is towing a trailer under these conditions because it is trying to pass the truck the entire way down the hill.

I had to chain up the last two days to get outta my yard!

A guy was killed this morning just after 8am, took his pickup off the road and cartwheeled through the ditch. It was a newer dodge 4X4 :rolleyes:

thundergrowl if you guys are getting in to accidents with that little skiff of snow i'd hate to see what happend once it comes down. Weve gotten about 10" so far and freezing rain every night.

It was 30* here last Thursday with flurries and Wednesday it is going to be 70*:screwy: In Chicago we get all 4 seasons.........in one day.

He had our first inch of snow today. I have always found that the little snowfalls cause more accidents. I think it's because A) For some reason nobody ever expects winter, so the first snowfall, no matter how trivial, is always chaos, B) People don't seem to realize that an inch of snow is actually slipperier than a foot of it, so they don't take it seriously (or slow down) and C) Because nobody takes it seriously the roads are more crowded. People seem to stay home when the big storms are forecast...

There was no snow...there wasn't even any rain to freeze. Frost formed on the road overnight and, with traffic rolling over it, it turned into black ice.
 
The relatively inexperienced 21 year old driver probably didn't even realize what was happening.

:iagree: also, it seems like no matter where you go everyone completely forgets how to drive the first time it snows. It's as though they've never seen snow before,  their pants, then go into shock or something :disappoin .

Well last week (Monday to be exact), we got about 2" of snow, now I  was pissed the whole night with work... I deliver pizzas... and nobody was taking the snow seriously... Personally I think a lot of the accidents are caused by the mixture of the cautious drivers with the not so cautious drivers...

Though by seven o'clock I was kinda the only one on the road... so the e-brake got a good work out... oh and I was driving the Aspire...

Airzonian Silver Edition tires are great for the V6 and tame V8 birds and cats!
