If you set base timing with the vacuum advance hooked up then your base timing is ATDC, very bad.If your vacuum advance is busted then you will have nothing but base timing at any engine RPM that has engine vacuum.If your mechanical advance is seized, at high engine RPM's you will be at base timing. Either of these situations will cause the car to run like total ASS.Also forget about the carb for now. If it runs then work on eliminating all the ignition variables.i totally forgot to mention this. stick you a long vac line on the dizzy vac hook up and suck like hell on it. You should see the mechanical advance stuff move when you do (yes you have to have the dizzy cover and rotor off:D ) ,,,,,,,then see if the vac line stays attached to your tongue. If it does,, then that tells you the big round diaphram is ok. If it does not, then its bleeding down so replace that part.Betcha you might have just solved a problem.I know you got this thread all caught up in the "time to wash the car" thing but get back to us on the timing issue since that the one thing thats important. But I thought some stuffs out. Like what I want as opposed to what I need to do.I figured that since I need a new brake booster, I might as well go either new or a manual brake kit I found on corral for $80. Probaly fix what I got as I don't wana do manual brakes on the street. I can live with the 7.5" and do the 8.8 swap when this one s out. Motorwise carb is fun and all but when I do the next motor in the Fila.... I want EFI more then likely. It doesn't *need* paint but it's up there on my list to do. Same with the Interior stuff. What I need to do is get it running right, legal ( so close now) and then diginoise what I need as I need it. Untill then collecting parts and tweeking stuff will have to do Quote Selected

I was cleanin up the motor since there isn't much more I can do right now, and discovered I forgot to cam 2 vac lines on the intake manifold vac. tree. Capped those, adjusted idle speed and the car runs a million times better. No heasitation. A bit off on the timing as I'm still waiting for a light but It's SOO much better now. I'll probaly scrub down teh engine compartment today and clean up, but nothing major.... yet Quote Selected

Nothing life changing but I LOVE the looks compaired to the 83-84 grill. Little touches that I think will make the difference. I wonder if I paint the grill before the rest of the car, will it look bad as it's a "new" paint on possably faded old paint? Quote Selected

After a few weeks, however, it seemed to draw attention to the neglected parts of the car. I would notice this myself, too. It was as simple as approaching the car in a parking lot. I would see the clean lights, fresh window trim, clean turbines, new tires... and py paint, rust, primer hood, missing trim, etc.It reminds me a lot of the film "Christine". Which reminds me of a quote I learned from that film: "You can't polish a turd."Not that that applies to our cars, I just found it hilarious when I heard it. Spend your money on getting that Fila road-worthy with a good drivetrain. Worry about the aesthetics later. Quote Selected
