Have you tried reseting it before plugging it in, or reflashing it?

It might be a bad battery or charger.

just my two cents...

K, for the 4G iPod, try plugging it into a computer. Sometimes a different power source will cause the iPod to work correctly. I just wiped out a 2G iPod and updated the iPod software for it, and it took multiple times of plugging it in, unplugging, etc. It still didn't work correctly after all that. So I restarted the computer, restarted iTunes, plugged in the iPod, and it finished resetting. I *think* it may have something to do with iTunes 7.

For the nano...if a new USB cable doesn't work, check Apple's site for a firmware update. One was just issued last week for the 1G shuffle that seemed to revive a lot of "dead" ones for people. There may be something for the nano also.

i know i b ought a other charger to plug into the wall. one off ebay. and it did tell me it would work with my ipod but its acting like its not getting power from the plug. And thats what it is telling me i need to do to reflash it is plug it into the wall. So idk what to do. im thinking buy the correct plug in for my ipod to see if that works or not. But thanx eric for that bit of advice ill try that to see what i can do.

OK, the 3G and 4G iPods, IIRC, can take either a USB or Firewire cable. The 5G and onward take only USB. The 1G and 2G were Firewire only. So if you're using a USB cable on yours...maybe try a Firewire connection if you can. A lot of people have more success with one or the other. Like my 3G, it's only been connected via Firewire for 2 years, but I have the cable to plug in via USB. I've never had problems with using Firewire. But if I ever do, there's another alternative.

Also, just to help out, this is THE most comprehensive site for iPod information: iLounge

There are tips and articles there about how to reset, diagnose and troubleshoot iPods.

Did you guys try calling Macintosh and making it their problems rather than trying to pull your hair over something they should be aware of?!  Don't know much about Ipods, but I did know they were having some serious battery issues and they're generally overpriced...I personally prefer the Creative labs mp3 players, because they're usually cheaper and offer the same type of media support as Ipod does.  Just my 2 cents, also.

ok got a new issue. The ipod won't charge via the usb ports. ive tryed every single one on the tower and nothing. Now looks like my ebay wall charger fried. Does any one have the origional 4th gen Charger laying around that there willing to get rid of? Cuz mine has dissapeared. Its like a box basically. with a end to plug into the wall.

You can go to Target or Wal*Mart to buy a regular wall charger (with USB connector for the cable). It's about $20.
